Jonah Peter Nimoy (born April 4, 1992)[1][2] is an American musician best known as the current multi-instrumentalist for the American punk rock band the Offspring.

Biography[edit]

Nimoy was born and raised in Los Angeles as the son of actor Adam Nimoy.[3] He began playing drums at the age of seven after relentlessly watching a VHS tape of The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. Soon after, he received a drum set and started playing in his garage for hours, trying to learn the entire "Moby Dick" solo or any Ginger Baker motif. Nimoy was also interested in guitar, but his hands were too small to hold a chord. In those early years, his dad would jump on guitar and with him on drums, followed by the occasional guest vocal appearance made by his mother. Not long after, Nimoy was starting bands with friends at school, where he would soon discover his love of punk and metal music. Through his high school years, he would play in a metal band called Brutal Force.[4]

When the band was over, Nimoy dropped out of high school. After a short-lived stint as a drum salesman, Nimoy decided to go back to school. After he graduated, he spent the next few years gigging with his metal band Legal Tender, as well as other various projects in which he sang and played guitar. Soon after making these occasional instrumental switches, he became a full-time frontman, guitar player, singer, and drummer.

In August 2017, he toured with the Offspring, filling in for Todd Morse who was filling in for lead guitarist Noodles. In 2019, Nimoy became the rhythm guitarist for the band on tours to replace Morse (who became the band's new bassist after the departure of founding bassist Greg K.). Nimoy later also started playing keyboards and percussion. In 2023, Nimoy played on "Suit of Armor", a song by Offspring bandmate Todd Morse.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Nimoy is the son of actor Adam Nimoy and grandson of Leonard Nimoy, who is known for his portrayal of Spock in the original Star Trek series and movies.
