Ni Luh Ketut Mahalini Ayu Raharja (born March 4, 2000), known professionally as Mahalini, is an Indonesian singer and actress. She is known as the fifth place on the tenth season of Indonesian Idol, broadcast by the national television channels RCTI in 2019–2020.[1]
Mahalini is one of the Indonesian artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, 10.3 million in early June 2023 (the highest after Rich Brian and Niki).[2][3] She also has four songs with over 100 million streams on the platform, namely "Melawan Restu", "Sisa Rasa", "Kisah Sempurna", and "Sial".[4]
Early life and education[edit]
Mahalini was born with the name Ni Luh Ketut Mahalini Ayu Raharja on March 4, 2000, in Denpasar, Bali. Mahalini was born into a family that adheres to Hinduism and has Balinese ethnicity.[5] Mahalini's first name uses a Balinese name. "Ni Luh" means having a female gender and "Ketut" which indicates she is the fourth child. She is the daughter of I Gede Suraharja and Ni Nyoman Serini.[6] She started participating in local singing competitions in junior high school. After graduating from junior high school, Mahalini continued to SMA Negeri 1 Denpasar. In high school, she got an achievement scholarship from her singing talent.[7] In 2018, Mahalini continued her education at Mahasaraswati Denpasar University taking a bachelor's degree in Dentistry. However, she decided to take a break to focus on her music career in 2022.[8]
Career[edit]
In 2019, Mahalini participated in the tenth season of Indonesian Idol.[9] Previously she had participated in the same event in the ninth season but failed during the audition.[10] In September 2019 she entered a period of quarantine.[11] After passing the audition stage and going through the competition quarantine process for 4 months, on February 3, 2020, she was eliminated and placed in the top five.[12]
