Not done (pending a better explanation) the CfD closing statement says "The result of the discussion was: delete. – Fayenatic London 19:32, 10 July 2022 (UTC)", and Category:Pages which use = as a template has been deleted. Basically if using "=" as template shouldn't generate this - then, it shouldn't generate this - and this message, and the associated mediawiki maint category should be cleaned up upstream, solving the problem for every project using mediawiki. — xaosflux ^Talk 19:10, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done Thank you ais523 for the guidance at CFD, and Ahecht for the follow-up. I misunderstood the last note at the CFD, thinking it meant that no action was required after all. I have now created the MediaWiki page with the advised text, and User:Ahecht/sandbox is no longer in the deleted category. I also changed my CFD close from Delete to Merge.

@Xaosflux: I mean no disrespect in overlooking your "not done" note above. I judged it better to avoid this puzzling redlink category appearing again in case it should baffle people who monitor Special:WantedCategories. Naturally I have no objection to a Phabricator ticket being opened and this page being deleted after the software fix. – Fayenatic London 20:08, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So this quirk (using =|argument) of passing an invalid argument to the magic word will still call the template - that could maybe get addressed upstream one day, but it won't be anytime soon. — xaosflux ^Talk 09:44, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
