Hi.

Please change MediaWiki:Userlogin-remembermypassword to match MediaWiki:Remembermypassword. The specific wording ("remember my login" instead of "remember me") and additional functionality (including the number of days) was specifically and intentionally added here. You can check the page history of both MediaWiki:Remembermypassword and MediaWiki talk:Remembermypassword to verify this.

This message ("Userlogin-remembermypassword") is part of the new user login form (viewable here: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:UserLogin?useNew=1>). --MZMcBride (talk) 21:33, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Note that "Remember me" is soon to not be the default message, but will instead be "Keep me logged in". As I've said elsewhere, it does not include the number of days because that's not really necessary. The standard practice is not specify, and since all cookies on site cannot last for more than 30 days due to the privacy policy, stating it is redundant in my view. This seems like a reasonable request with no apparent negatives. Done. Killiondude (talk) 20:06, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The negative is that it is way too wordy. You can see in the new design that will soon be the default that is by far the longest message on the page. I would strongly suggest reconsidering something so verbose, which on most other opular sites is no more than 3-4 words. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 21:50, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Way too wordy? We're talking about the addition of 10 words. Saying it is the "longest message" is meaningless given this. Essentially, you're blowing the length out of proportion. Regarding your earlier message, do you think people read privacy policies regularly? If anything is redundant, it is the gray words that say "Enter your x" right beneath the headings that say "x". I might concede to "maximum" changing to "max" if that helps your irritation at the apparent wall of text. Killiondude (talk) 22:35, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's unnecessary level of detail. People don't decide to stay logged in or not dependent on whether it's 30 days, 60 days, or forever. They either want be logged in on that machine, or they don't. The new default of "Keep me logged in" is totally sufficient, and brevity is a worthy goal to shoot for, where it can convey an adequate message. Wordy detail-oriented interface messages like this are why new users find our site opaque. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 22:44, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"Keep my logged in" suggests exactly that - that someone will stay logged in until they log out. This is not the case with our sites, where we only stay logged in for a maximum of 30 days, thus this is misleading and may even lead to people wondering if someone else has logged in to their account if they were logged out of it. Okay, how about "Keep me logged in for 30 days" then? Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 18:34, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
