Moorina is a rural locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2016 census, Moorina had a population of 413 people.[1]
Geography[edit]
Part of the western boundary of Moorina follows Gregors Creek.[citation needed]
The proposed Bruce Highway Western Alternative will pass through Moorina from south to north.[3]
History[edit]
The locality name was originally a property name owned by J. W. Carseldine. The name is thought to be from Tasmania.[2]
Moorina State School opened on 1918 and closed on 1954.[4] The school was on Moorina Road (27°09′05″S 152°52′40″E / 27.1515°S 152.8778°E).[5]
Demographics[edit]
In the 2011 census, Moorina recorded a population of 354 people, 47.2% female and 52.8% male. The median age of the Moorina population was 45 years, 8 years above the national median of 37. 80.3% of people living in Moorina were born in Australia. The other top responses for country of birth were England 6.2%, New Zealand 2.8%, Scotland 1.1%, Papua New Guinea 1.1%, Italy 0.8%. 92.1% of people spoke only English at home; the next most common languages were 1.1% Greek, and 0.8% Italian.[citation needed]
