Nassim Nasr (born August 20, 1974) is a Lebanese painter known for pioneering "Expressive Color Minimalism", an innovative blend of abstract expressionism, Color Field, and minimalism.[1] Nasr’s journey from advertising to painting reflects his pursuit of artistic depth, spanning over two decades and marked by vibrant exploration.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Nasr was born in northern Lebanon,[2] but spent his childhood in Kuwait and the United Kingdom due to the Lebanese Civil War.[3] His family encouraged creativity and art, and he began painting at age 15.[2] He graduated from college in 1995 with a degree in Business management.[2]

Career[edit]

Nasr's initial career led him to the realm of advertising.[4] In June 2020, he began purusing art as a full-time career after losing his corporate job due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2][5]

Nasr has painted multiple commissioned works, including a piece for Majid Al Futtaim Group's Dubai headquarters, Majid Al Futtaim, Al Tamimi & Company, Stryker, Kearney, The Meydan 100, and Philip Morris, among others.[1][6] He has exhibited twice at World Art Dubai, in October 2020 and April 2021.[1][7]

In 2022, Nasr collaborated with Le Inka, a temporary body art company.[8]

Style[edit]

Nasr is self-taught[1] and deeply influenced by minimalism and abstract expressionism.[3] Central to his artistic philosophy is "Expressive Color Minimalism", an innovative blend of abstract expressionism, color field, and minimalism.[2]

Themes and contributions[edit]

Nasr's work explores the balance between societal constructs and potential chaos, with each piece reflecting themes of self-discovery and renewal. His paintings often serve as metaphysical portals, emphasizing life and purity through shape and color.[2]

Professional approach[edit]

Diverging from the conventional gallery system, Nasr donates many of his works to schools and charitable causes. He has also been commissioned by notable corporations and is popular among private collectors.[9]

Artistic impact and philosophy[edit]

Nasr believes in the power of art to evoke emotions and initiate conversations, valuing these aspects over formal accolades. He draws inspiration from a wide range of artists and is passionate about pushing creative boundaries.[2]
