• 15 September 1979 : The second line of Tbilisi Metro — Saburtalo Line opened (green line on the map).
• 19 September 2007 : A group of archeologists led by David Lortkipanidze unearthed 1.8 million years old fossilized bones of a homo erectus near Dmanisi.
• 20 September 1990 : South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast declared independence from Georgia.
• 21 September 1578 : King of Kakheti Alexander II and Ottoman general Mustapha Lala-Phasha signed the 'Sartichala Peace Treaty.
• 24 September 1801 : Russian Empire annexed the kingdom of Kartl-Kakheti.
• 27 September 1993 : In the last major battle of the war in Abkhazia, Sukhumi was captured by the allied forces, resulting in ethnic cleansing of Georgians and over two hundred thousand of refugees fleeing the region.
