I don't think that quite counts as the broadest meaning of the term[edit]

(it can be defined in ways that don't necessarily restrict it to physical manifestations--a means of defining it that are particularly troublesome when thinking about art in the digital world, or art whose only physical manifestation is as a series of instructions or a performance by someone else of those instructions--and it has been applied to objects that are not necessarily the product of creativity or imagination), but I can't think of a better way to phrase that opening sentence at the moment, unfortunately. 86.208.101.94 23:09, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

add the following line after the first two sentences in the intro:

The Greek word for art is techne which gives further credence to the fact that art, or self-expression, requires varying degrees of skill to employ the techniques or "disciplines" of art-making, be they classical, traditonal, contemporary, or modern in content and style. (Gverstraete (talk) 00:21, 18 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Not done Placing the sentence there would disrupt the flow of the paragraph. Also, the remaining sentences in the paragraph are essentially saying the same thing, although without referencing the Greek word. Regards,--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 04:01, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sentence in Arts portal reads:

The word art comes from the Latin word ars, artis, which means "skill/craft/art; trick| wile; science| knowledge; method| way; character (pl.)."

Request change to:

The word art comes from the Latin word ars, artis, which means "skill/craft/art."

I agree, it doesn't seem relevent, so I removed it - per WP:BRD, if anyone really objects, they can change it back. Thanks!  Chzz  ►  11:44, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone reputable and knowledgeable add videogames right between film and dance? 67.52.166.162 (talk) 03:25, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO Videogames are not an appropriate addition - but I'm not refusing the request - just wondering what others think. Arjayay (talk) 17:25, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Apparently there is a lack of consensus here. Why do you think that videogames should be added? Please expand. Thank you. — {{U|Technical 13}} (tec) 19:43, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Arts is an intelligence form of the culture. It results in peoples feelings, and how they feel towards themselves and others. 207.7.75.187 (talk) 17:49, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the following sentences as they describe a fringe theory that has little to do with the arts, and the wikilink "battle trance" has been deleted.

"According to a recent suggestion, several forms of audio and visual arts (rhythmic singing and drumming on external objects, dancing, body and face painting) were developed very early in hominid evolution by the forces of natural selection in order to reach an altered state of consciousness. In this state, which Jordania calls battle trance, hominids and early human were losing their individuality, and were acquiring a new collective identity, where they were not feeling fear or pain, and were religiously dedicated to the group interests, with total disregard for their individual safety and life. This state was needed to defend early hominids from predators, and also to help to obtain food by aggressive scavenging." 2604:2000:E1A8:2F00:D11E:C1F5:8069:C610 (talk) 21:07, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That intro box looks rather long to me, so I'd support some trimming of the text. The box was expanded in this edit by Cirt (talk · contribs), so I'll leave him to comment. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:47, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done As no one has commented further, I've removed the section completely. --Mdann52talk to me! 18:12, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a valid source people can make anything up if they wanted to like "Michael Jackson died of cigars". You should not use this website.
