Sam Elmir
Sam Elmir is an Australian politician who is currently serving as Mayor of Georges River since September 2023.[1] As a councillor, Elmir was expelled from the Liberal Party due to branch stacking allegations,[2][3] in which more than 100 members were signed up to the party and given fake email addresses.[4]
Elmir currently sits as an independent Mayor, and is backed by the Georges River Residents and Ratepayers party, in exchange for the position of Deputy Mayor.
Tenure[edit]
Elmir ran successfully in Blakehurst Ward in both the 2017,[5] and 2021 local elections, as a Liberal.[6]
As councillor, Elmir had been appointed to the Multicultural NSW Advisory Board, by the state government.[7]
Under his tenure, the council became the first to attempt a metropolitan e-scooter trial.[8] Elmir was also responsible for the opening of Memory Lane Social Club, a place designed for people with dementia.[9]
Personal life[edit]
Elmir has had prior experience as a pharmacy proprietor, Councillor on Georges River Council, and is involved with a number of not-for-profit organisations, including the Australian Christian and Muslim Friendship Society.[10]
