Sheri Byrne-Haber

Sheri Byrne-Haber is a Canadian-American global subject matter expert in disability and accessibility.[1][2][3] She focuses primarily on accessibility of technology.

Education[edit]

Byrne-Haber has degrees in computer science, law, and business.[2][4] She is a CPACC[5] certified accessibility professional and has worked in the disability and accessibility field for almost two decades.[6]

Professional career[edit]

Beginning in the 2000s, Byrne-Haber worked as an attorney, focusing primarily on cases where the rights of d/Deaf people were infringed upon.[7] In 2012, she decided to pivot from working as a lawyer to pursue a career in accessibility.[8]

Byrne-Haber co-wrote the Digital Accessibility Maturity Model,[citation needed] and is the founder of the VMware accessibility program.[9] From 2019 to 2024, she was a Senior Staff Accessibility Architect at VMware.[10] She was an early adopter of Machine Learning and Generative AI accessibility applications.[11]

Byrne-Haber is a globally recognized professional in the subjects of accessibility and disability in the workplace and classroom.[12]

She initiated digital accessibility projects in Fortune 200 firms, including VMware,[13][14] McDonald's, and Albertsons.[2]

Recognition[edit]

Byrne-Haber was named 2020 Author of the Year by Medium's largest publication, the UX Collective.[15]

She was named a LinkedIn Top Voice for Social Impact for 2022.[citation needed]

Archery[edit]

Byrne-Haber began practicing wheelchair archery in late 2019.[8][2]

In 2023, She won World Cup Stage #3 compound women's open at Chula Vista, California.[16]

Byrne-Haber won her flight at "The Vegas Shoot" in 2023, beating 31 non-disabled competitors[17]

Personal life[edit]

Byrne-Haber uses a wheelchair and has Type 1 diabetes.[23]

Byrne-Haber has a deaf daughter.[8]
