Sowmaeh-ye Olya (Persian: صومعه عليا)[a] is a village in, and the capital of, Barvanan-e Sharqi Rural District of Torkamanchay District, Mianeh County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran.[4]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 3,014 in 765 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 3,123 people in 918 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 2,432 people in 791 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district.[2]
