Biased Article[edit]

This article is clearly biased in some sections in favor of the subject - almost to the point that it seems to be driven by the subject's marketing people. If Wikipedia is not capable of protecting the article from bias, it should at least feature a disclaimer. Examples:

  • As a businessman always on the lookout for new business opportunities and concerned about the economic situation of his country, Álvaro Noboa ... (insert here some positive-sounding words)
  • he founded Banco del Litoral, one of Ecuador’s most reliable banks.[22] (the link points to a page from the bank itself)

Possible Copyright Violation[edit]

I have placed a Copyright Violation Tag on this article. The current version of the article appeared to be copied directly from a web site. Furthermore, this article seemed to favor the subject. Previous edits of this article included material that portrayed the subject in a negative light and some editors were actually making discussion comments directly in the article, rather than the talk page. This article needs to be rewritten in an objective, encyclopedic fashion that portrays the subject accurately and without any bias. This may be difficult to accomplish, as the subject is a major political figure in his country, with both fervent supporters and opposers. Subwayatrain (talk) 07:48, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Net worth?[edit]

What is the current net worth of Álvaro Noboa, does anyone know? RFerreira 01:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is estimated that he possess 1 200 million dollars (source, Diario El Universo, Ecuador), which he inherited from his father, Luis Noboa Naranjo. I hope I had answered your question (and please excuse my English, if I made any mistakes). Dalobuca 22:07, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, that is his net, as I've heard on the news. And kudos for this article. This sort of info is not really available in Ecuador. Hope the little pig doesn't win. darynthe

Me too, but I'm sure he will. Dalobuca 21:27, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm curious, if he becomes president, does he have to give away all his shares of his companies, or can he remain owner and president at the same time? --74.56.159.45 16:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, he can remain owner and president at the same time. Dalobuca 20:04, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not only can he remain owner and president, but he will probably use the power of the office to further enrich himself. When he was President of the Monetary Board under Abdala Bucaram, he used political pressure against his step-mother and sisters, to further his control of the inheritance from his father.

Crusade for a New Humanity[edit]

"Crusade for a New Humanity" would be translated to Spanish as "Cruzada por/para una Nueva Humanidad". Noboas's foundation name is Cruzada Nueva Humanidad, which doesn't make much sense in Spanish either ("Crusade New Humanity"?)... Dalobuca 17:11, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Humanity Crusade, or New Manking Crusade sounds right in english I think =) (well, right considering it's a lame name in spanish too). --User:Revoish 05:35, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spending[edit]

It would be good if the article justs mentions what the spending limit was. By my count, if he was 98% over and spent $2.3 million, it would have been about $1.162 million. Of course, maybe it was $1.15 million and he actually spent about $2.277 million Nil Einne 23:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An international point of view describe his life a clear example of leadership, of the capacity to oppose what is improperly established, of the will to stand by his principles, of the discipline required to change habits, of the perseverance to fulfil the cherished dreams of his heart, of the capacity to create and maintain large companies and of the gift to govern. These qualities have made Alvaro excel as the entrepreneurial, social and political leader of Ecuador.

Dear Gg spoker, your edits are purely point-of-view information. Articles in Wikipedia must be written neutral and sourced with neutral sources. Both of this is not the case here. Please read more about this in Wikipedia:NPOV. Best Regards, lomis (talk) 08:25, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback[edit]

Dear Lomis, thanks for letting me know what I was doing wrong about this article, it was not my intention to fight here but please understand that it was quite awful not to know why any of my editings were always completly deleted without an explanation. Please feed me back about the rest of the article as well. Thanks in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gg spoker (talkcontribs) 14:15, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the continous reverts before, but maybe now we can work together to make this article better. Your new edits come much closer to a neutral version, but I think not enough. I tried to merge the two conflicting versions, what do you think of the new version? Best Regards, --lomis (talk) 19:14, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your words, I agree to work togheter for a better article. I tried to make the edits more neutral, thanks for the feed back. I saw the changes you made and think they are fine. Looking for new information about the IRS charges. --Gg spoker (talk) 17:33, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About the dead link references[edit]

What could be done to avoid having dead link references? most of them are from a local newspaper "El Comercio".--Gg spoker (talk) 17:33, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes web pages that are no longer available may still be on the web site, but you will have to go through the web site and find them and then correct the link. If that doesn't work, you can see if there is a cached version of the page at a site like The Internet Archive where you can put the address in and see if there is a stored version there. If that fails, you may have to find another source to support the information given in the article. Another hint, when you post on this talk page, please remember to sign your posts with four tildes. (~~~~) If you are unable to use the tildes, you can use the signature button found above the edit box when you are on the edit page. Happy Editing!
