Ca ira, ca ira[edit]

The opening theme and apparent leitmotiv quote the tune of the French revolution-era chant

"Ah ça ira, ça ira, ça ira/ Les aristocrates à la lanterne"

("Ah, that'll do, that'll do, that'll do/[CArrying] the aristocrats [around] as lanterns.")

which was chanted when real or alleged aristocrats were guillotined and their heads carried around on pikes.

Some "hope" ;-)

I am sure that Waters takes for Act 2 Scene 2 "My Dear Cousin Bourbon of Spain" the same melody of his song (one of his best in his solo career) "Every Strangers Eyes". French version[edit]

Not a word here about the French version of the opera?! Although it is not certain which is the original version (having an English composer/lyrics writer and a French lyrics writer). There are a few annoying things on the French version:
first it uses the same soundtrack as the English version and some sound-effects that were used to underline the English text are completely useless (because sometimes both texts are completely different in meaning);
second: the Frenglish of the non-French-speaking singers is perhaps fun for fans of Allo Allo), but this opera wasn't meant as a comedy, me thinks. Felix Atagong 13:31, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been browsing the net to find some sources and apparently there aren't any. This makes me wonder, am I the only one on the earth who sat through both versions of Waters's opera comparing them? POV in opening paragraphs[edit]

There is fantalk in this article. In the opening paragraph it leads to confusion about Waters' choice of lyrics for the French Revolution anthem "Ça ira." Did he use the Édith Piaf version, or didn't he? Accurate chart accomplishments[edit]

I cannon find any evidence that this opera topped any charts whatsoever, except allmusic, which contradicts its source, Billboard, which states the album peaked at #5 in the US.http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts#/artist/roger-waters/chart-history/5989?f=900&g=Albums&sort=date Does anyone have any reliable sources for it's chart history?--GabeMc (talk) 22:04, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming?[edit]

Contrary to the article namings that exist now, the revolutionary song, ie. what this based on, is commonly known as Ça Ira. Should the original song be moved to this heading and this article moved to Ça Ira (Opera)? Slac speak up! 12:30, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
