Wrong photo[edit]

The photo shows Landis, not Pereiro Sio.

I can understand why you wouldn't want to sign these comments, but please do. -- Jibal 08:34, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know? The guy who took it says it's PS. HenryFlower 18:37, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

umm he is wearing a phonak shirt which is a bit strange if it is pereiro?? it is a wrong picture

Why? He rode for Phonak last year, and the caption says it is 2005. Moriori 05:22, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is a more identifiable photo, but I don't know what the deal is with copyright. --Aioth 11:01, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The caption says Photo ©: Fotoreporter Sirotti. The website is in Italian but I doubt they've released or will release the photo under any license acceptable for use in wikipedia. We could potentially use it under fair use but we only use fair use when we don't have a more acceptable license photo. On the Phonak issue, I guess they're wishing they'd retained Pereiro now instead of Landis :-P Nil Einne 17:03, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It clearly is Pereiro. Landis wore bright yellow shoe son the 2005 Tour and it's is obvious from the rider's physique it is not Floyd.

Landis "Appeal"[edit]

The recurring suggestion that Landis "will eventually be disqualified and Pereiro will be promoted to the winner's position" and the use of the word appeal suggest that his guilt is established, which, until the US Anti-Doping Agency has tried him, it is not. There cannot be an appeal if no hearing or trial has occurred.

Galecian / Spanish[edit]

This has been changed twice recently. I'm not in a position to decide which it is, but I imagine some consensus must exist for which "nationality" to use. Privong 02:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar without tilde[edit]

From the horse's mouth: [1]. In Spanish "oscar" is stressed in the last sillable, thus it carries no tilde at all. And, in any case, he himself does NOT put a tilde on his website. Jclerman 23:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lasai 21:14, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Surname[edit]

Further to his name discussions, shouldn't we refer to him as just Pereiro, not Pereiro Sio? (See Iberian naming customs} Mk3severo 12:21, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

I have requested this article be moved to Óscar Pereiro in line for common names in Iberian naming customs. Mk3severo 17:29, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've completed the move, per the request at WP:RM. Cheers. -GTBacchus(talk) 22:53, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology[edit]

It seems odd to me to have the season information go in reverse-chronological order while the tour de france finish information goes in chronological order. Is anyone opposed to changing one or the other so they're in the same order? Privong 21:37, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeh, how weird. I don't know which way is better, but have at least made it consistent. Mk3severo 21:49, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Early Career[edit]

Hi I am new to Wiki so not quite sure how to go about things. I don't want to mess up what others have been doing by editing incorrectly.

Anyway the section on the "selling" of the stage on the Tour de France I think needs to be amplified. Pereiro thought that Hicapie was offering to sell him the stage , which he agreed to . Hincapie was in fact offering to buy the stage. In the end they both tried to win and when Hincapie won Pereiro was annoyed with him . Hincapie paid up however. The explanation in Spanish under the video actually says ' Oscar Pereiro recounts on EL Tiempo Juego de Cope ( the radio programme he was speaking on} how he had intended to buy , in 2005, the 15th stage of the Tour de France but a there was a misunderstanding with George Hincapie, who offered Pereiro to buy the stage from Pereiro but Pereiro thought that the offer was to sell the stage to him , Pereiro, Pereiro accepted but Hincapie won to the astonishment of Pereiro. The day afterwards after being mocked by Armstrong Pereiro got into the breakaway and won the stage." Here is a link to an article from 2016 in English reporting on a further discussion by Pereiro on TV on the same incident. https://deadspin.com/that-time-two-cyclists-tried-to-fix-a-tour-de-france-st-1777608185 and another from El Pais which is probably the source article https://elpais.com/deportes/2016/05/12/actualidad/1463056895_966181.html

The same section in the George Hincapie article will also need to be amended for consistency.

Incidentally , it may be me , but the video at the link given doesn't seem to work anymore.
