Why 1957 and not 1956/57?[edit]

The competition was held throughout the calendar year 1957. The business end actually was held in the first half of the 1957/58 season. In the first half of the year there were five regional qualifications along the the way the Oberligas were split up; kind of regional cup competitions between the members of the first and second division clubs. It certainly is not a 1956/57 competition, but in this sense then rather the first cup competition of 1957/58.

The "qualification" match between Bayern and Spandau served to reduce the five regional champions to four participants in the semifinals.

Here Bayern's way through the Southern qualification:

1st Round - 27/01/1957: SpVgg Neu-Isenburg – FC Bayern 2–2 aet
1st Round - 03/03/1957: FC Bayern – SpVgg Neu-Isenburg 4–0
2nd Round - 09/03/1937: FC Bayern – TSV Straubing 2–1
3rd Round - 31/03/1957: FC Bayern – Kickers Offenbach 3–2 aet
4th Round - 26/05/1957: KSV Hessen Kassel – FC Bayern 1–1 aet
4th Round - 15/06/1957: FC Bayern – KSV Hessen Kassel 3–1
Final - 26/06/1957: FC Bayern – FC Schweinfurt 05 4–1

Holders Karlsruher SC were eliminated here in the Round of 16 by Schweinfurt. The results here were taken from historic newspapers, which is to tedious to document for my purposes. Cheers, Oalexander (talk) 04:19, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
