Why 1972, when there are currently no AFL club season articles earlier than about 2007? The choice of 1972 was originally done as an attempt to show what one of the club season articles would look like in an older context – a time when the reserves and state football still existed, and when clubs occasionally played matches against WAFL or SANFL clubs. It was only once I started gathering information that I found information about the delightfully interesting and obscure World Tour (information about which is mostly otherwise absent from the internet), which almost makes this topic notable in its own right.
