Obsolete Triple[edit]

What is an "obsolete triple", used to describe McGee's triple in game 3? It's been phrased that way since the very first version of the article. I don't know what could possibly make a triple obsolete. Wikipedia and Google both show this article as the only document to use the term in a baseball context.
