Consensus Second Team[edit]

I just corrected a couple of folks who were removed from the consensus second team on this page - Allan Ray and Tyler Hansbrough. There had previously been no reference, so I added one that confirms they should be there (yes, there were 7 2nd teamers that year) - the Official NCAA Record Book. I will add this reference to other All-America pages as I have time.

Just to give some background - the consensus teams are determined from the 4 teams shown below the consensus teams ("Individual All-America teams") and are arrived at in a similar way to a college football or basketball poll. Each player is assigned a point value = 3 points for a first-tean selection, 2 points for a second team selection and 1 point for a third team selection. There are never fewer than 5 players on the first and second teams, but can be more if ties occur.

For 2006, Rudy Gay (1 first team, 2 wnd teams = 7 points), Dee Brown (3 2nd Teams = 6 points), Rodney Carney (3 2nd teams = 6 points) and Leon Powe (3 2nd teams = 6 points) locked up the first four spots on the consensus second team, but PJ Tucker (2 second team, 1 3rd team), Tyler Hansbrough (1 first team, 2 3rd teams) and Allan Ray (2 second team, 1 3rd team) all tied for the last spot with 5 points. The consensus teams don't always make sense, but this is how they are determined (and this is verified by the NCAA at the link I referenced in the article).
