Copa Sudamericana 20092009 Copa Sudamericana — Per WP:COMMONNAME since the year goes in front in English. The old titles would serve as redirects since the year goes in the end in Spanish. Should go for all the editions. Digirami (talk) 09:52, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: the name is based in latin languages syntactic structure and latins are accustomed to reed "Copa Sudamericana of the year 2008" --Caceo (talk) 16:04, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as per above. Even though in Spanish, one would say "Copa Sudamericana 2009", in English, you say "2009 Copa Sudamericana". Title should match how you would say it in English (and the tournament name is not literally translated to English either). Digirami (talk) 20:30, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Digirami. The way Latin languages read the title is irrelevant because we use English. Jafeluv (talk) 12:24, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Our other annual sports events are named with year first (2008 World Series, etc.) so I assume the English name of this event would follow same pattern. DMacks (talk) 17:39, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Change to Oppose. If we're don't use the English translated name, then it's not consistent to follow the English naming scheme. Seems like "2008 after name" is part of the untranslated name of this thing. Do we have English refs that mention this topic? If not, the "use English" guideline has an important comment. Note: if we do this change, would also want to file a reqmove to change other related articles (list in Template:Campeonato_Brasileiro_Série_A_seasons) for consistency. DMacks (talk) 17:52, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • There was a discussion about this in WP:Footy. A concensus was reached to put the year in the front. Premier League seasons have already been moved to that scheme, and the process has begun for others at a slow rate because of the vast amount of articles it affects and possible lack of interest. Additionally, the English literal translation of "Copa Sudamericana" is never used (same goes for the Copa Libertadores). Digirami (talk) 18:06, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • We don't use a translated name because the cup is most commonly referred to as Copa Sudamericana in English. That doesn't prevent us from using English word order for the year. Jafeluv (talk) 08:12, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Support. No problem with using the Spanish name either. We have Copa América, not American Cup, and while I've frequently heard Libertadores Cup, I haven't heard Liberators' Cup. Aubergine (talk) 20:45, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
