External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

  • If you have discovered URLs which were erroneously considered dead by the bot, you can report them with this tool.
  • If you found an error with any archives or the URLs themselves, you can fix them with this tool.

Done, MarnetteD - The sales of the album matches that on the web archive or have I missed something ?, Cheers. –Davey2010Talk 00:20, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Davey2010. I am working to clear items from the Category:Articles with unchecked bot-modified external links. As I understand it these are created when Cybot II goes through an article and tries to take any ref marked with a "dead link" tag (and even some that haven't been though I don't know how that works) and tries to update the link so that the ref is verifiable again. It does this by searching the wayback machine and other archive websites and then adding them to the existing ref. Since this is done by a bot it can't check to make sure that its update has actually worked. That is up to us volunteers :-) If the link works I enter "true" in the "sourcecheck" template - if it hasn't worked I then put in "failed" and that leads to someone else (I don't know who) coming by and doing other things to try and make the link work. Now this maybe way TMI for you so to answer your original question is that since the update worked the numbers should have matched up. Now some of this long winded answer is guesswork on my part and if you want more detailed answers you might try asking the editor who runs the bot. Cheers. Hi MarnetteD, Sorry I don't mean this in a dickish way but I know all of that as I've checked links myself .... I feel awaful for not saying I knew as you've just explained it for nothing ... sorry, Anyway it doesn't really matter if the link's dead - As long as the article text matches the cite then it should be fine :), I apologize for changing the template above - I shouldn't have barged in like that so have reverted (We all edit in different ways so I'm not saying you're right or I'm right it but as you did edit it first It's only fair I leave it ... sorry waffling on, Anyway thanks for replying and explaining :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:24, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Davey2010. No worries - I don't think you were being dickish at all. In fact I shouldn't have assumed that you were unaware of how these "modified EL" sections work. I didn't completely understand your question so I thought I should be thorough with my reply. On top of that I it looks like I totally missed what is happening. Now that I look closer I think we checked two different items. The item I checked was in the "region" column and goes to this generic page for the BPI, It requires a person to search through the site. I think (and could be wrong) that you checked the "sales/shipment" column and that updated link does work. Now I see that the one I checked HAS NOT been updated by the bot and, thus, my update to the template was a friggin mistake - trout slap for me an amandine one I hope as that is my favorite. I've changed the template back to "true" but do you think we should add "dead link" to the one I checked? Many many apologies for my mistake and thanks for your patience. MarnetteD|Talk 01:46, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Bugs Bunny has a great line for my set of errors here :-) MarnetteD|Talk 01:52, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MarnetteD, Meh it's better to assume someone doesn't know than I guess to assume someone knows when they dont :), Hahaha you're not the only one - I spent 3 or 4 minutes trying to find the cite ... and then realized the sales column was actually cited as well, I seriously must've spent a good five minutes trying to work out "why the cite was in the region column when there's a completely different cite there...." .... Not gonna lie I was completely confused ... and then realized I was looking the wrong one altogether! , Na you don't deserve a trout - We all make mistakes :), I don't really bother with the dead link tag as the webarchive kind of verifies it ... if there wasn't a webarchive and just a dead link then obviously I would :), It's all cool we all make mistakes so don't worry about it :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 14:06, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Davey2010 It really was an "I'm in the dark as to what is going on - and then I found the light switch" situations :-) Thanks for your patience and understanding!! MarnetteD|Talk 14:10, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hahaha that is the perfect situation ... It was haha :), No worries and thanks for your patience and understanding with me :), Happy editing :), –Davey2010Talk 14:15, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
