Ben Foster[edit]

Transfer has been moved to 2010-11 as his trasfer is for the 2010-11 season and has no bearing on 2009-10. Sky Sports has this trasfer listed as for this season, as does 2010–11 Birmingham City F.C. season. Furthermore, ESPN are quoting the fee as £6.5 million. Ck786 (talk) 22:57, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The accepted rule is that English club season articles cover the period from 1 July to 30 June the following year. Since Foster's transfer to Birmingham City took place before 30 June 2010, that transfer should be listed in the 2009-10 season article. – PeeJay 00:40, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This makes no sence especially in the instance where any players' transfer occurs between the end of one season yet before the next... If you see Transfer window and Page 150 of the Premier League Rule Book, the transfer window of the new season commences from the day following the completion of the previous season. 'Season' articles should conform with the events of that season. There are 2 transfer windows in a season and the new season article should apply immediately following the end of the season. Why should events of the the Summer transfer window of season 2010-11 appear in the 2009-10 article???? Especially when it is widely reported as occurring THIS season not last. Would be much appreciated if you could show me where this Wiki guideline is. Ck786 (talk) 23:22, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a Wiki guideline, it's a consensus that was achieved years ago at WT:FOOTY. If you think we need to change that consensus, do it there instead of changing articles to conform with your view. Anyway, the period we are in now is neither one season or another; it's the off-season or pre-season. The season doesn't start until the first ball is kicked in the first game. – PeeJay 10:23, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done. For what it's worth, I didn't change it to suit my view, I changed it to align with how the international media are reporting the transfer. Fact is, Birmingham didn't transfer Foster for the 2009-10 season hence why reputable news organisations, such as Sky (posted above), list the transfer of Foster along with all other transfers that have occurred since the conclusion of the 2009-10 season. Oh and if the season doesnt start untill a ball is kicked, then why dont we have pre-season articles? Ridiculous point. Ck786 (talk) 13:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, that is a ridiculous point. FWIW, I would actually support a change so that anything that happens after the last game of the season goes in the following season's article. Anyway, let's not fall out over this. I apologise for my harsh tone. – PeeJay 17:35, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Home Kit[edit]

2010-11 Manchester United Home

Having some drama's with the socks. [1] Any suggestions?? Ck786 (talk) 01:26, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks great! My only comment would be that the white lines on the sleeves and the black lines on the shorts shouldn't go all the way to the bottom, but given that you've only used the standard kit pattern graphics, that looks fantastic! – PeeJay 10:46, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've knocked up a pair of socks and have put it in the main article. VEO one five (talk) 11:21, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I thought the standard templates covered it well enough which is handy considering I know sweet FA about making custom kits... The socks look good too! Ck786 (talk) 11:54, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Finally got round to making them both. The away shirt is a bit iffy with the sleeve design. VEO one five (talk) 07:45, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Preseason wording and reference[edit]

Kansas City's second goal shouldn't be referred to as the wrong decision then linked to a article that says "Kamara then headed Ryan Smith’s corner past young United goalkeeper Ben Amos, but even TV replays were inconclusive as to whether the whole ball crossed the line." I understand the prose section is open to some editorial liberty but this one doesn't sit well with me. Let's try to be fair and honest. Thanks Morry32 (talk) 18:57, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question: The specified source does not appear to show that there is no transfer fee. Can you provide a source that does?
It's also helpful to editors if you make it clear whether text is being added, removed or both.

Addition of Starting Line-up Section to the page[edit]

After adding a section to the 2010-11 season page, it was removed again for a reason that was sited on last years site. In my opinion, the page is poorer for not having the information, so what if 'major football sites' don't record the information, for anyone who follows football, it is not exactly difficult to figure out this information from the team sheet and match report. I would theirfore suggest it is added again, teams such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea to name a few, have this information on their pages Buc 17 14:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

NPOV tag[edit]

"The veteran finished off a brilliant move just before the break. Hungry Berbatov then converted a Giggs cross for his third before Nani slotted a fifth with Birmingham on their knees."

"United went ahead when Javier Hernández brilliantly back-healed home Nani's cross."

"Hernández and Nani combined once again to devastating effect as Hernández teed up Nani to blast home a wonderful left-footed winner."

"Marc Albrighton doubled the home side's lead, slotting home Stewart Downing's perfect cross."

So why don't you help and fix it?

I am sure its not unique on WP, that one person may write stuff hes close too, exept of few the rest of the article is not NPOV acording to WP. In addition, the last one you wrote was actually the oposite than NPOV, as Marc Albrighton is non Man Utd player, and even on BBC they use the words as perfect to descrive great passes which reached thier destination. -- 217.132.39.66 (talk) 21:16, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

True, but what is acceptable or appropriate for a news report is not necessarily appropriate for an encyclopedia, which ought really to be more dispassionate than an instantaneous sports bulletin. I suppose what i mean is that is considered Ok for a sports reporter to show how impressed he was in reporting it, but an encyclopaedia should not be impressed, or unimpressed, it should be dispassionate. Then again, Wikipedia sports articles often suffer from this 'blow-by blow' problem. I think Wikipedia should tend towards less emotional discussion of games - it's not a news site or a magazine or a blog, it's an encyclopaedia.Mpjmcevoy (talk) 12:33, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
