Contact[edit]

I assume it's simply because of what the official results say, but Ana Beatriz didn't contact anything. She spun all on her own and never touched a wall. I'd also argue that contact is misleading for Conway and Hunter-Reay, they collided. The359 (Talk) 18:03, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you're referring to the terms in the "Race Results" table, yes, that's taken from the official results, where "contact" has the technical meaning of any collision, no matter how minor or how serious. As for Beatriz, user BleuDXXXIV added into the "race summary" a sentence saying that Beatriz spun into the inside wall while attempting to avoid the Conway/Hunter-Reay crash. I just checked the broadcast, and yes, you can see Beatriz spin and hit the inside wall during the Conway/Hunter-Reay crash. You can also see it at [1] - the initial broadcast shows a wider angle than most of the replays, and at 0:19 you can see Beatriz spin and hit the wall, albeit fairly gently. Even if the official report uses contact for any sort of accident, its not in the best interest of an encyclopedia for a common user to use the same term for all these types of incidents, in my opinion.The359 (Talk) 04:22, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think the text race summary section (where it's currently described as "a dramatic crash...flipping Conway's car and sending it airborne and into the protective fence, shattering the car") is a better place than the tabular race results for that kind of nuance. In any case, what would you suggest as an alternative which would be suitably short enough for tabular presentation? None of "accident" "collision" or "crash" necessarily imply a multi-car event, and trying to come up with a classification for the severity of contact risks running into OR issues, unless there's some external reliable source which already makes such a classification. How to present qualifying points?[edit]

Since league points were awarded for all qualifying positions (not just the pole) for the 500, should that be represented somewhere, and if so, how? Just added into the "Points" column on the "Race Results" table? In the tables in the "Qualifying" section, or perhaps the "Starting Grid?" (Anyone know if the qualifying points would be affected due to starting order changes after qualifying? It's not so much relevant for this particular race since the only change was to switch positions 32 and 33, which earn the same points for qualifying. But, say, if the car qualified in the 10th position had to move to 33rd due to car or driver changes, would the driver still get points for qualifying 10th? That might inform whether "Qualifying" or "Starting Grid" would be the better place to display those points.) Chuck (talk) 15:07, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
