spaces between en dashes[edit]

due to this being the second time the spaces have been removed from the scorelines in the football box templates, i thought i would explain my reasoning for re-inserting them yet again.

my understanding is that the manual of style for dashes (WP:DASH) is referring to when a comparison is made in a worded sentence, e.g. "a 51–30 win", which is the example used on the page. however in this context, it is not in a worded sentence, and is instead trying to create a scoreline effect, which is supposed to be clearly and instantly visible and understandable. the documentation for all templates which use this scoreline effect clearly state that spaces are to be inserted between the numbers indicating the score of each team (see Template:Football box collapsible, Template:Football box, etc.). to go against this documentation and delete the spaces from the scoreline would be not only going against this documentation, but would also create major inconsistencies in articles of this nature. — Limabeans 02:22, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all. Many articles correctly implement the en-dash, just as you have correctly implemented it in the year range in the infobox and for scorelines in the lead. It's also extremely odd to be internally inconsistent. However, have it your way, there's no regulation to comply with MOS, nor to be internally consistent, it just looks odd. Also, just to be clear, why no spaces for scores in the "Home attendances" section? Nor in the "Overall" section? Finally, the documentation for those infoboxes does not "clearly state" anything about spaces, it merely has an example where spaces are used. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:06, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are no spaces in the "overall" section because you removed them. I agree with Limabeans, the scores stand out more with spaces and the page is better for having them. Spc 21 (talk) 22:25, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well as I said before, no article is obliged to meet the manual of style, so no reason this one should I suppose. The scores don't need to "stand out", that's nonsense, but hey, if you want differently formatted scores within a single article, who am I to argue?
