Name of the competition[edit]

I don't know why the 2012-13 EHF Cup has been named "EHF European Cup" in the English Wikipedia. On the EHF Official Website they clearly talk about "EHF Cup" even though the format has changed. In fact the name "European Cup" is used by the EHF just to indicate the men's and women's european competitions which stand below the EHF Champions League. When the EHF started talking about merging the EHF cup with the Cup Winners' Cup they considered to call the new competition "European Cup" but then they decided to keep the old name. If you want to stress the fact that the format is totally new, you may talk about "New EHF cup" (As the European Handball Federation does), but talking about "European Cup", in my opinion, is completely wrong. I agree with you. The EHF clearly useses the name "EHF Cup" on their official website [1]. Another question is if this is a brand new competition of just the continuation of the old EHF Cup, just in a new format (merger with the Cup Winners' Cup). The EHF official website states of "the newly re-launched competition" [2]. There are also two wiki articles; EHF Cup, EHF European Cup. If this "new EHF Cup" is in fact a new competition and the winner will be crowned as the first ever, then EHF European Cup article should probably stay and the name of the competition as well, to distinguish it from the former cup. But if the winner will just succeede Goppinged who won the 2011–12 EHF Cup, then it should be deleted and the name changed. Ratipok (talk) 03:39, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
