Glentoran: Europa League qualification[edit]

Is Glentoran qualify or not? For me not, because in the scenario of Crusaders win the league, Cliftonville win the cup and Glentoran end 5th or 6th then Glentoran is out of EL. Indeed Cliftonville qualify to EL via Cup Winner and not via Second Place in the league, so there isn't the spot for the Cup Runner-up (Glentoran) but the league spots go to the 3rd and the 4th. It doesn't work that way. If the cup winners already qualify for europe via the league, the place goes to the cup runners-up. Cliftonville mathematically can't finish lower than 2nd in the league which means they are guaranteed a place in the CL or the EL. So if Crusaders win the league, Cliftonville win the cup and Glentoran finish 5th/6th, Glentoran still qualify for EL as Irish Cup runners-up, because cup winners Cliftonville qualified via the league, so the cup winners EL place then gets passed down to the runners-up. That means Glentoran are now guaranteed a place in the EL no matter what happens in the cup final, or where they finish in the league.
See here: The winners of the Irish Cup qualify to represent Northern Ireland in the following season’s UEFA Europa League, except when they have also qualified for the UEFA Champions League or Europa League via the IFA Premiership, in which case the losing finalists are entered into the Europa League. If both finalists have already qualified via league position, then the 4th-placed club in the IFA Premiership are awarded the place. Reddev87 (talk) 11:45, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The page of Irish Cup is wrong: see the Europa League page. 2013–14 UEFA Europa League#Redistribution rules: When the domestic cup winners also qualify for the Europa League through league position, their place through the league position is vacated. As a result, the highest-placed team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions qualify for the Europa League, with the Europa League qualifiers which finish above them in the league moved up one "place" if possible.
The problem is when the spot is different (Play-off, third round, second round). If I win the Cup I qualify for the Play-off round but if I end second I go to the third round and the cup runner-up go to play-off. Non Sense. Stigni (talk) 19:46, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And please in a discussion don't cite what you have wrote: [1]. If you had wrote a wrong thing 7 month ago, it doesn't make it correct now. Stigni (talk) 20:29, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Stigni is correct. From Europa League regulations: "If the winner of the domestic cup qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, the domestic cup runner-up qualifies for the UEFA Europa League at the stage initially reserved for the lowest ranking top domestic league representative ... ". The domestic cup winners (assuming they don't qualify for CL) take the first Europa League place, so if Cliftonville didn't win the league, but won the Cup, they would take the first Europa League slot and the remaining two places would go to 3rd and 4th place.
