Wales' Cup Winners[edit]

Wales' Cup winners have entered the competition in the Second Qualifying round in the last few seasons and I can see no evidence from Uefa or Bert Kassies' excellent site to suggest this has changed — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blogdroed (talkcontribs) 12:26, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in 2012–13 UEFA Europa League[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 2012–13 UEFA Europa League's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "regulations":

  • From List of top-division football clubs in UEFA countries: "Regulations of the UEFA Champions League 2010/11" (PDF). UEFA. pp. 41–48. Retrieved 16 August 2010.
  • From 2009–10 UEFA Europa League: "Regulations of the UEFA Europa League 2009/10" (PDF). uefa.com. Union of European Football Associations. Retrieved 7 August 2009.
  • From UEFA Super Cup: "Regulations of the UEFA Super Cup" (PDF). UEFA. March 2008. Retrieved 12 December 2008.
  • From 2010–11 UEFA Europa League: Regulations of the UEFA Europa League 2010/11

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 03:35, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea?[edit]

Was it a good idea to fill in a list of the qualificants if it's not sure yet who qualifies? When does the Uefa actually decided over the new regulations? --134.176.205.212 (talk) 13:49, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well technically it is a bit of crystal-balling somewhat, but based on the lack of any significant signs of change from UEFA I still think it's useful information to display on the page. The new Regs were confirmed by UEFA at a meeting a few weeks ago but they havent been published yet. I think if there were big enough changes to the access list to make this info irrelevant, we would have heard about them. At the moment I think the yellow message box suffices in informing users that it isn't confirmed yet.
Although the rankings of the countries which have been filled-in is certain. Aheyfromhome (talk) 14:37, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How many teams?[edit]

How to explain the following error in the mount of teams:
1st qual.round: 54 clubs = 27 winners
2nd qual.round: 53 clubs + 27 = 40 winners
3rd qual.round: 30 clubs + 40 = 35 winners
round play-off: 33 clubs + 35 = 34 winners
But in the group stage: 31 winners from the play-off round. Where are 3 clubs???
АндрейКок (talk) 11:44, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That was a preeliminary list, I think now you shouldn't have those problems anymore:
1st qr: 78 clubs = 39 winners
2nd qr: 80 clubs (41 new entries) = 40 winners
3rd qr: 58 clubs (18 new entries) = 29 winners
PO: 62 clubs (33 new entries of which 15 from champions league) = 31 winners
There is still one minor variable included and that is the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League winner since it has a guaranted spot in the group stage if it doesn't reach it through it's domestic league or doesn't reach the champions league. AnelZukic (talk) 05:03, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

cup winners spot[edit]

What happens to the highest placed club in the league in the case that the both (national) cup final participants are qualified for the Champions League[like it is most likely to become in Germany]? Is the fourth/fifth qualified for the Group stage then? --Edroeh (talk) 22:59, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The best league placing gets the group spot, and everybody else moves up one. Aheyfromhome (talk) 16:46, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As Germany has no League Cup, two of the three Euro League qualified teams will come from the Bundesliga. If both teams in the Cup final are already qualified either for EL (directly into the group stage by loosing their Champions League Play Off) or CL the vacant space of the cup winner will add to the Bundesliga. Then, the 5th team in the Bundesliga will go to the group stage (instead of playing the play off), the 6th team will play the play off (instead of round 3), and the previously not qualified 7th will enter 3rd qualification round. Actually, it looks like this case will happen in Germany. However, even with the 6 days to go and therefore 18 points to play for and a lead of 20 points at least for both finalists, a theoretically malus in points (e.g. spoken out due to license difficulties or whatsoever) makes this aspect only final, when the final results of the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal will be announced officially and definetively) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.156.106.166 (talk) 03:44, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Flag for the Defending Champs[edit]

I've just had a thought about the Spanish flag appearing next to the Defending Champions in the group stage. It doesn't look like an additional spot for a Spanish club, meaning a 4th spot, does it? I'm just thinking that people might count up that Spain has a team in 3QR, a team in the PO round and 2 teams in the Group Stage =4 rather than realising that Defending Champs spot might actually just be a re-arrangement of one of the 3 spots already mentioned. I think it might be worth dropping the flag to avoid any misinterpretation of Spains numbers, rather than simply stating that that spot will be Spanish. (I mean, the place might not even be used if the Defending Champs also qualify for the Group Stage, which is a very possible outcome.) Aheyfromhome (talk) 10:55, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rangers[edit]

Since Rangers no longer exist, should they be referred to in the past tense here? Unreal7 (talk) 22:31, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I guess Rangers' none-existence rather makes the "not exiting administration" thing a bit obsolete. It probably needs a rewrite to say "As a result of 2nd place Rangers' liquidation...". I've just got a job to do and then I'll do it if no-one's done it in the mean time. Aheyfromhome (talk) 08:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dogs Dinner[edit]

What a total dogs dinner of a competition this is. Teams parachuted in from the Champions League, countless extra teams shuffled in here and there, absolutely exhausting for the teams that have to enter early on and then get anywhere... and all that, just for this 3rd rate trophy. Having said all that, and the reason why I say all that, I'd like to congratulate the Wikipedia editors who have worked on this god-awful competition and have made relatively clear sense of it. Well done! OldSquiffyBat (talk) 09:58, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For most teams it's a great thing to play in the Europa League. For the teams of the small associations but also for the teams of the big ones it is very good thing. --Sayka41 (talk) 11:37, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is Anschi already qualified?[edit]

If both Liverpool and Bern win their games they have the same 10 points Anschi has. In this case counts which looks like this right now:

  • Liverpool 7 8:6
  • Anschi 6 3:1
  • Bern 4 8:9

If Bern wins would it look this:

  • Liverpool 7 8:6
  • Bern 7 X:Y
  • Anschi 6 Z:A

Which means Anschi would be out of Europa League! --134.176.205.143 (talk) 17:36, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Attendances[edit]

Relative to the attendances (single match and average). I only checked S.L.Benfica's fugures because they felt weird. One source says 42k spectators. Another source says 65k. The article says 30k spectators (based on?). Do we really need this kind of random numbers? - Nabla (talk) 22:02, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm BOLDly removing this section. It's not included in previous seasons; while this alone isn't a great reason to remove it, it's a fairly arbitrary metric. Stadium sizes vary wildly, which skew results. I'd say we could include the best attended match, as we do in league seasons, but we all know it's going to be the final at the end. WP:NOTSTATSBOOK is the relevant policy. --BDD (talk) 20:46, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have a different opinion. I think, these data are useful. Subtropical-man (talk) 18:09, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
