Which set of rounds should the Infobox cover?[edit]

There appears to be some confusion regarding the scope of the infobox in this article, and in the corresponding articles for many of the previous seasons.

The Dates and Teams parameters cover the entire competition, from the Extra Preliminary Round up to the Final, whereas the Matches played, Goals scored and I believe Top goal scorer(s) parameters appear to cover only those rounds from the First Round Proper onwards.

Shouldn't there be some consistency regarding the use of these parameters? Drawoh46 (talk) 05:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Prize fund.[edit]

A little query.... The breakdown of the prize fund states that the sixth round winners are due £360,000, but then that the semi-final losers will receive £450,000. Which is it (or both)? Astronomy Explained (talk) 20:20, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Its not clear, but I think the semi-final losers are in fact the quarter-final winners who do not go on to win a semi-final.Ânes-pur-sàng (talk) 20:39, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There will be 8 teams in the sixth round. Four of them win and enter the semi-finals. Two of those teams win and progress to the final and two lose. So all the sixth round winners are covered by the subsequent rows of the table..... Astronomy Explained (talk) 22:05, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Team rankings[edit]

Do the team rankings need to by shown in the results tables? They are simply a distraction. Any exceptional events (such as Lincoln reaching the qf's) are already highlighted in the text. 80.2.106.75 (talk) 10:25, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What was previously called the Sixth Round Proper[edit]

Some discussion around the former name. The text reads:

the FA officially renamed the stage the 'Quarter-finals', the name that had long been used colloquially to describe what was previously called the Sixth Round Proper.

The cited telegraph.co.uk source says:

The FA have firstly caved on the naming of the upcoming round of their ancient competition. No longer will sticklers be able to insist that it's actually the Sixth Round of the Cup we are watching. The colloquial term has become the official name - we are now undeniably at the quarter-final stage.

PeeJay2K3 points out:

Even the Football Association continues to use the word "proper" to distinguish the proper phase of the FA Cup from the qualifying phase. See thefa.com here

So, there are three names:

sixth round (6th round, Sixth Round)
sixth round proper (6th round proper, Sixth Round Proper)
quarter finals (quarter-finals, quarterfinals, Quarter Finals)

It seems clear that:

the "official" name used by the FA since 2017 has been "quarter finals";
the "official" name used by the FA before 2017 was either "sixth round" or "sixth round proper";
The FA both before and since 2017 has used all 3 descriptions "quarter finals", "sixth round", "sixth round proper"; as well as others like "the business end", "the last eight", etc.

Whether the "official" name before 2017 was "sixth round" or "sixth round proper" has not been established by either source (thefa.com or telegraph.co.uk). A better source is needed.

It's also not clear how widespread "quarter finals" was for how long before 2017. telegraph.co.uk implies that by 2017 only "sticklers" were not using that name, but that's not hugely reliable. jnestorius^(talk) 14:07, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
