Biography, policies and endorsements - Neutral Point of View[edit]

I'd like to suggest some objective criteria to evaluate information to be added to the sections currently entitled "Biography and Policies" since no doubt every candidate will write a glowing endorsement of themselves in that section.

  1. Incumbency on city council or on constituent councils prior to amalgamation, and prior candidacy for Toronto City Council. e.g. "Incumbent of Toronto City Council since 2010. Candidate in the 2000 and 2003 elections, defeated by incumbent Monty Hall."
  2. Endorsements by major newspapers (Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, Globe and Mail, National Post, Now Magazine) or significant business or labour organizations. Prior to announcement of 2018 endorsements, include 2014 endorsements here (no earlier than 1 election ago, since things can... change)
  3. Prior experience in elected office, as a Minister of the Crown, or as a candidate, for example "MPP for Toronto-Centre, 1999-2010, Deputy Premier of Ontario 2006-2009, Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care 2003-2008, Ontario Minister of Energy and Infrastructure 2008-2009. Candidate for Mayor of Toronto 2010."
  4. Family connection to elected office, for example "son of former Toronto city councillors Gordon Crusty and Joanne Capable."
  5. Endorsements by current or previous elected officials. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.58.50.26 (talk) 01:02, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't see why 2014 or earlier endorsements are relevant. Let's restrict endorsements to current ones. Landbroke99 (talk) 11:21, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • 2014 endorsements are only relevant before 2018 endorsements come out. At that point, yes, it would make sense to delete them. I'd leave them in for now.

Endorsements[edit]

Endorsements from 2014 will be included until a superseding endorsement is made (or not made) in 2018. Endorsements provide context for candidates political leanings and even from 4 years ago are relevant (for now). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canadianpoliticaljunkie (talkcontribs) 14:02, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Endorsements from 2014 are not relevant to 2018 at all. Media outlets and other organizations can endorse entirely differently this time than they did last time, and they don't provide useful context — for instance, did Now endorse a candidate enthusiastically, or as a "hold your nose because he's the best of a bad lot" hail mary play? Not to mention that I don't even have to name, because y'all know already, the one person on council who was endorsed by progressive groups when he first ran for council, but has turned out to be pretty much the opposite of what anybody thought he would be. Simply stating that a candidate was endorsed by Now does not actually provide that context. Current endorsements are relevant, certainly — but endorsements from last time are irrelevant even as "temporary" placeholders for current ones, because they simply don't tell you anything current. Prior Candidacies[edit]

In references to previous candidacies, avoid the use of words like "failed" or "defeated". They are non-neutral, and they are redundant, for if a person was a candidate for MP, and was not subsequently an MP, it is clear that they were not elected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canadianpoliticaljunkie (talkcontribs) 10:11, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Minor / Non-"famous" candidates.[edit]

So the deadline is tomorrow at 2pm. I am typing this on Thursday at 2:21pm.

I just added two candidates running in Ward 43 against Jim Karygiannis. At 2:01pm on Friday I will add every candidate that is missing and has not withdrawn or being eliminated/kicked out. However, the bios will empty. If you go to their website, they will have their own bio/about page. Obviously it will be biased. This is for the non-incumbents, the nobodies, the whatever you want to call them. I don't feel comfortable just copy/pasting their about page.

I will add the names to the appropriate ward boxes. The rest of you will put on the endorsements, bios, social media links, campaign website links, etc... MiroslavGlavic (talk) 18:24, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notes for Ward 17, Christina Liu[edit]

I've ended up in an edit war with an IP user regarding the notes for Christina Liu, candidate in Ward 17. I finally dug up a source for the endorsement from Vincent Ke, but I believe that her status as his campaign manager is not relevant per the NPOV section of the talk page. Additionally, the latest edit from the other user removed the source I added. After reading the edit war section of the Wikipedia guidelines, I am hoping that the other user can post here to discuss their actions. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by RobRoyDuncan (talkcontribs) 03:43, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
