Top goalscorers[edit]

@S.A. Julio:, @Ben5218:, @JalenFolf:, @Yeboah kwame:, @Chanheigeorge:, @MonFrontieres: I think that for judging the top goalscorer of the tournament, shouldn't we just take into account the goals which are being scored from the start of the group stage. That way, I think that it would be much more like other continental competitions around the world. Like for example, for the 2018–19 CAF Champions League, I think that Moataz Al-Mehdi should not be the top scorer, as he didn't even play in the group stage. I was actually thinking about this for a while, but I didn't have the time to talk about it here. The first two rounds in the CAF Champions League, the preliminary round and first round, are part of the qualifying rounds, and therefore I believe that goals scored in these rounds should not be counted, and we should count goals starting from group stage instead to match other competitions like the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League and the 2019–20 Arab Club Champions Cup. @Ben5218: Yes, even the AFC Club competitions doesn't count the goals scored in qualifying for determining the top scorer. So should we move forward with the cleanup of recent seasons (the seasons which have 16 teams), or more discussion is required?--Anbans 585 (talk) 07:14, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer to hear other user's opinion before doing that, though I believe it's clear that goals scored in the qualifying rounds should not be counted. For seasons prior to the 2017 CCL/CCC edition, I think will just have to leave it the way it is. Ben5218 (talk) 09:34, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have read the media guides and stats reports given by CAF for previous tournaments (although most are probably not available due to the website change). They DO count the goals scored in preliminary rounds. Although I don't think CAF has actually ever given an award for the top scorer of the tournament. The CAF does not publish stats on their webpage (or even any official reports for this season), so it is anybody's guess what they treat as top scorer (there is no award anyway). Personally I don't want to vote just because I believe the top scorers should be counted from this stage or that stage, because it is not what I believe that matters. I am also too busy (or lazy) nowadays to count top scorers for CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup, because there are no official reports which "confirm" who are the scorers, and other editors like you are doing a good job to keep these pages running. So I am just going to pass on this issue for now until I can know for sure the official position of CAF. Chanheigeorge (talk) 17:53, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Arabic definite article[edit]

This has been bothering me for a while and I want to hear some opinions about it. Arabic names which include the Arabic definite article may be written in many different ways, most common in North Africa is Al or El (without a dash); while using Al- (with a dash) is more often used in the Levant. For example, both names of Egyptian club Al Ahly and Moroccan midfielder Walid El Karti are written without a dash, while both names of Iraqi club Al-Shorta and Saudi Arabian full-back Salman Al-Faraj are written with a dash.

However, here on almost all articles related to African football we always change the names to include a dash in all names including a definite article. So, why are we doing this? I understand that this might be done to make sure that all similar names would be written in the same style, but shouldn't this be wrong? Shouldn't we just keep all articles without a dash or simply don't change any name at all? What do you think about it? Ben5218 (talk) 21:28, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
