Lead[edit]

  • No wikilinks in boldface per MOS:BOLDAVOID please as has been done in The 2020 London Marathon
  • "which took place on Sunday, 4 October." - avoid writing out days please
  • Please avoid using references in the lead per MOS:CITELEAD
  • "The elite men's race was won by Ethiopian Shura Kitata, and the elite women's race was won by Kenyan Brigid Kosgei. The wheelchair men's race was won by Canadian Brent Lakatos, and the wheelchair women's race was won by Dutchwoman Nikita den Boer." - try to avoid repetition of similiarly worded phrases in both of these sentences

Background[edit]

  • "It was the first time that the London Marathon has been an elite-only event." - the London Marathon was solely an elite-only event.
  • "All athletes were tested for COVID-19 multiple times before the race," - not stated by Athetics Weekly. Another reliable source is needed for this statement
  • "The prize money for winners of the 2020 London Marathon was 50% lower than in 2019." - avoid using the percent symbol per MOS:PERCENT
  • " Instead, the 2020 London Marathon consisted of 19.6 laps of length" - the Running World says it was 19 laps not 19.6 laps
  • "Results for British athletes at the 2020 London Marathon were used by Team GB to determine qualification for the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021." - BBC Sport does not explicitly say Team GB used this method. Another reliable source is needed to go with the BBC Sport source

Competitors[edit]

  • "the women's race started at 7:15 BST (UTC+1), the men's race started at 10:15 BST, and the wheelchair race started at 13:10 BST." repetition of the word "race" in the same sentence
  • "Briton Sir Mo Farah," - aoving using honourifics here please
  • "Former women's winner Shelly Woods raced in what was her first event for four years.[19][18]" - refs in numerical order please

Race summary[edit]

  • The Guardian summary source can be used to verify "which made them the wettest London Marathon in history."
  • "The temperature was around 10 °C (50 °F)," - needs to be cited to a reliable source since The Guardian does not mention it
  • Wikilink personal best for non-Athletics readers
  • " Natasha Cockram won the prize for best British finisher, although she was outside the Olympic qualifying time." - BBC Sport mentions she was the highest-placed Brit but not that she was outside the Olympic qualifying time. You'll need to use another source to verify that she failed to set a time that met the 2020 Olympic standard time
  • "After the race, Kosgei called the 2020 London Marathon course "mundane"," - not mentioned by The Daily Telegraph source
  • "there was a group of nine contendors for the victory." - typo; should be spelt contenders
  • "whilst Chepng'etich said that she had struggled with the cold, wet conditions." -

Results[edit]

  • All of the columns in the tables should have scope="col" included to meet MOS:DTT compliance and the athletes need to be sorted by surname with the sort name template if you want to keep the tables sortable
  • The spaces between the source and the citations below each of the four tables should not need to exist

Virtual marathon[edit]

  • Reference 10 does not mention the information it is supposed to back up in this section. The appropriate reliable source explicitly stating that information is needed in this section
  • "Over 43,000 people" - More than

Notes[edit]

  • Notes B and C will need to be verified with reliable sources

References[edit]

  • Reference 2's "Coronavirus: London Marathon postponed until October" work should be BBC Sport not plain BBC
  • Reference 3 "Everything you need to know about the London Marathon 2020" is missing the author
  • Reference 10 "London Marathon announce race schedule for elite-only race" is missing the author
  • Reference 12 "Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele duel in London Marathon's battle of stars and shoes" does not have the author mentioned
  • Reference 13's work should be BBC Sport not plain BBC
  • Reference 15 "Kenenisa Bekele withdraws from London Marathon with calf injury" does not have the author included in the citation
  • Reference 16 "London Marathon releases its best elite field in years" also lacks mention of the author in the citation
  • References 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 31 and 32 are all missing the authors from the citation fields
  • Reference 31's url is linked to the incorrect article

Will put the review on hold to allow the nominator to address or query the points raised above. MWright96 (talk) 16:38, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the review, I will work on these over the next few days. So far, I have fixed the Lead and Background sections. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:37, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Race summary section done, although there was no comment on the last point, which was "whilst Chepng'etich said that she had struggled with the cold, wet conditions." -
  • Virtual event section: the URL looks to have been repurposed, the web archive on source 8 ([1]) does support the text, but there seems to be a different article at the URL [2]- the article I'm using is "What does the future hold for the London Marathon" as in the archive url, but it's taking us to "How to watch the 2020 London Marathon" article instead. Not sure how to resolve this, as their website is the problem. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:33, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also done Notes, so just the table and ref fixing to do. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:44, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Table and ref fixing also done
  • MWright96 please let me know if anything else needs to be done. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:47, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
