Suspect's name[edit]

Policy says to omit name when not publicly disseminated. Here are three articles with the perp's name, in both French and in English[1][2][3] It is abusive to the policy to keep hiding behind it. XavierItzm (talk) 09:08, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain how omitting the suspect's name is abusive of WP:BLPCRIME? Captain Calm (talk) 09:17, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Plain reading of the policy: "When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed, such as in certain court cases or occupations, it is often preferable to omit it". The name has been widely disseminated in at least two continents in at least two major world languages.XavierItzm (talk) 10:41, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Let's get some consensus from other editors on this, @TompaDompa: do you think this meets "widely disseminated" yet? Captain Calm (talk) 10:55, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Omitting the name does not result in any significant loss of context, and with investigations ongoing not naming an otherwise WP:LOWPROFILE person suspected of a crime is preferable. Whether it has been widely disseminated is not really the point here. You're reading from WP:BLPNAME, whereas I'm citing WP:BLPCRIME: For individuals who are not public figures; that is, individuals not covered by § Public figures, editors must seriously consider not including material—in any article—that suggests the person has committed, or is accused of having committed, a crime, unless a conviction has been secured. In short, there is no benefit to including the name, and there is some harm. TompaDompa (talk) 11:05, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Captain Calm: avoid WP:CAN. XavierItzm (talk) 11:32, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's not canvassing: I repeated TompaDompa's edit of the day before, deliberately using the same edit summary, so it was reasonable to ping them for inclusion in the discussion. I'm not on the other side of any political war here, and "Shocked, shocked" as your edit summary is unhelpful. So while I re-read WP:CAN, perhaps you could re-read WP:AGF.
