Lewis Hamilton starting from 20th place[edit]

Island92 (talk · contribs), can I ask you to reconsider the IP account's edit specifying that Hamilton started in 20th place? You (and he) clearly know the subject very well, but for an outsider, like me, his edit seemed to me to make perfect sense. Yes, I could read his starting position in the table, but the explanation that he was permitted to start in last place does fit naturally into the narrative of how he got disqualified and permitted to re-enter, and the reader won't necessarily think to refer to the table. Even if they do, it may not be obvious why he started in 20th place. It struck me as a good edit. Elemimele (talk) 14:13, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Source doesn't say where he starts. Being disqualified and then permitted to race it is quinte obvious he starts last (or on some occasions from the pit lane). I merely don't see the need to prose where he starts in the Notes.--Island92 (talk) 14:24, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
2021 Monaco Grand Prix for istance. Mick Schumacher did not take part in qualifying, but was allowed to race at the stewards discretion. We put the last position (20th) in the table, rather than having it displayed also into the Notes sentence. Island92 (talk) 14:31, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any reason not to mention he started in 20th, and Elemimele has just given a reason why we should. Also, as I have explained to you multiple times, "It is done like this here" is not a persuasive argument in any context. SSSB (talk) 15:05, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't have had the foggiest idea that someone entering at the stewards' discretion is automatically placed last. I do think these articles should be written for the general, uninformed reader. It's only a couple of words, and it makes it clear what's going on. Elemimele (talk) 17:51, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
