Morocco is the host, Wydad is both Moroccan and the current champion; Wydad can't have both of the host's and Africa's seat in this competition, and this sufficiently explains why the Champions League's runner-up Al-Ahly was given a seat. I'm unsure if there is a specific discussion, but this is the style used on articles involving U.S. teams, for example see the season pages of Major League Soccer and the CONCACAF Champions League. Major League Soccer have used "Seattle Sounders" on occasion without "FC",^{[1] [2]} SB Nation's Sounder at Heart uses "Seattle Sounders" in nearly every single article without "FC", the Associated Press uses "Seattle Sounders",^{[3] [4] [5]} 90min use "Seattle Sounders",^{[6] [7] [8]} ESPN use "Seattle Sounders",^{[9] [10] [11]} The Seattle Times frequently uses just "Sounders" without "FC",^{[12] [13] [14]} KING-TV use "Seattle Sounders",^{[15] [16] [17]} and even the English-language edition of Diario AS uses "Seattle Sounders".^{[18] [19]} Every single one of the sources I cited here are from January 2023 also. — AFC Vixen 🦊 19:15, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The full names are typically used in standalone tables and statistical lists, as mentioned here. Given this formatting is used fairly consistently across Wikipedia, a better venue for discussion might be Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/United States and Canada task force or WT:FOOTY. S.A.
