Corporate names[edit]

Not sure if this is the best place to discuss this, but from what I've read, the CFA could be bringing back corporate naming to Chinese football clubs, and I'd like to strike up a discussion for article title moves for football clubs. I understand it's still very early to discuss this, but I'd much rather we get this clear before February-ish when everything just becomes disorganised.

Would it be best if we didn't move Wikipedia pages, and instead just made a note on like the first sentence of their articles saying e.g., "Shanghai Port Football Club, currently known for sponsorship reasons as Shanghai SIPG F.C.," because

1. moving articles is really hard to maintain with redirects and the sheer number of outdated player pages using the neutralised names and such,

2. it might not be the best name that some clubs are known for (as per the rule at Wikipedia:Article titles#Use commonly recognizable names, or as per Wikipedia:Article titles#Name changes, where we'd only move the article when sources in English start using those corporate names (given the rule is that clubs still retain their "neutralised" names).

Or a third option.

The point is, I'm foreseeing really frequent changes, and I'd like to know how we feel here. IDontHaveSkype (talk) 03:40, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
