National variety of English[edit]

Per MOS:RETAIN, the form of English used at the time of the article's creation should be used unless there is a national variety with strong ties to the topic. As there is no host nation decided, the original variety should be retained. This is a longstanding guideline, but just because an American dares to write about the sport doesn't mean it is fair to renege on it. SounderBruce 05:46, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't work like that. The entire page has not connection, for the time being, with something American. The basic standard should be British English. Island92 (talk) 05:14, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"When no English variety has been established and discussion does not resolve the issue, use the variety found in the first post-stub revision that introduced an identifiable variety."
British English is not the default. Never has been, never will be. SounderBruce 05:31, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The policy has to be changed then, because in the background this is the English British version of the encyclopedia, rather than the American ones. Island92 (talk) 05:42, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
