Dennis Washington[edit]

The anonymous editor must really be a fan of Dennis Washington. Makes it sound like he forsaw the recent spike in copper prices. Nevermind that copper prices took over 20 years to hit that spike after he bought the Montana holdings of the former Anaconda Co. He does deserve some credit for getting the Continental Pit going (as a non-union mine in Butte!) and selling (at a good profit) most of it to ASARCO before the real hard times in the copper business hit.— Preceding unsigned comment added by BSMet94 (talkcontribs) 00:10, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Arco logo global 180x144.jpg[edit]

Image:Arco logo global 180x144.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:37, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

The external link to "ARCO PumpPass Website" points to a gift-card reseller's ordering page. A better choice might be http://www.arco.com/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=16002893&contentId=7022990, the program's page at the ARCO company website. The reseller is linked from the program page, so nothing is lost. Alternatively, the link name might be changed to "Order ARCO PumpPass cards" or something equally descriptive.

Deleted as advertising. Thanks. Cheers -- Geologyguy 22:08, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional material[edit]

More on this note: The REST of the statements at the bottom of this page("patented gasoline," stuff about PumpPass, etc seem like blatent advertisements. Completely do NOT belong on this page! Since when did Wikipedia start promoting its subjects? Come on, people. Oryx Tempel 23:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, and I removed the material. But rather than saying, "Come on, people", you can (and should) feel free to remove it yourself. Best, MCB 01:44, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Radio Advertisement For ARCO Triggers Emergency Alert System[edit]

I see that there is no mention of this in the ARCO article but in 2010 a radio commercial which was produced by Ogilvy and Mather for ARCO when broadcast caused the Emergency Alert System at some of the primary EAS radio stations in the United States to activate which in turn then caused a chain reaction at EAS monitoring stations including radio and television stations and cable systems which immediately lost their programming for a simulcast of the EAS message which ended up being the ARCO commercial. In fact one radio station reported that their EAS system unmuted and activated at least 5 times in one week. It got so bad that the Society of Broadcast Engineers issued a warning to broadcast stations about the ad and the Federal Communications Commission issued Notice of Apparent Liability to several radio stations which it later drop when the cause was discovered. Would it be proper to add this information either under History or even under its own section with details and properly referenced links to the incident including an .mp3 of the ad itself posted on the Society of Broadcast Engineer's website or would this just be considered trivial? Initialism or Acronym[edit]

This is a nitpick but ARCO is an acronym not an initialism. While the letters are made up of the initial letters of the company Atlantic Richfield COmpany, the letters in "ARCO" are not pronounced separately, aaa-are-see-oh. It is pronounced as a word itself, are-ko. Same for NASA. An initialism is, for example, CRT (cathode ray tube) pronounced see-are-tee. Other examples: AIDS is an acronym while HIV is an initialism. Other initialisms: URL, FBI, CAD, PTA, USA, JPG, CIA, ATM; other acronyms: LASER, GIF, JPEG, RADAR. Dangnad (talk) 00:50, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Environmental clean-up industry?[edit]

This feels like vandalism that has existed on the page for a long time. They clearly still sell petroleum, so can someone explain this? I'll probably remove it if I don't hear from anyone in a few weeks. lukini (talk | contribs) 23:35, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
