Requested move 1 November 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not Moved - The sole support argument was based on the official team name. However, it did not seem to cite anything in support to satisfy WP:NAMINGCRITERIA. The opposition makes a strong point per WP:COMMONNAME (closed by non-admin page mover) -- Yashovardhan (talk) 15:57, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ASK RigaASK Rīga – official team name H-Hurry (talk) 11:18, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink).  — Amakuru (talk) 21:32, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - I can't see any sources that write it other than ASK Riga, which is consistent with the city name in English, Riga.[1][2]  — Amakuru (talk) 21:32, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Amakuru pending any sources provided to the contrary (and preferably in English). Jenks24 (talk) 10:05, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support given that Atlētika Sporta Klubs is Latvian, having the name Rīga with the full Latvian spelling will only cause a small number of readers' heads to explode. (and of course the macron-less spelling will still go direct to the same place, damn those crafty Balts and their evil macrons) In ictu oculi (talk) 17:25, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The diacritic is in this case uncommon (perhaps even unknown) in English, and there seems no disputing this above. Andrewa (talk) 14:58, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
