Arrival of the ghosts[edit]

The screenplay of the 1938 and subsequent versions of the story do not alter the arrival of the ghosts.

While Marley's ghost tells Scrooge he will be visiting on consecutive nights by the three ghosts, Dickens has all three visit Scrooge in one night. In the text:

"What's to-day, my fine fellow?" said Scrooge. "To-day!" replied the boy. "Why, Christmas Day." "It's Christmas Day!" said Scrooge to himself. "I haven't missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can.
