"The album is the first of Smith's to be composed from his own originally produced music in its entirety" - Is it entirely his own? Color of My Soul, the first song on the album, definitely sounds like it samples Feeling Good by Nina Simone.
Yes, it was created entirely on his own. He recorded a majority of Color of My Soul in New Orleans, where he worked with a ton of brass and woodwind artists.
