This is terribly unobjective[edit]

I'm going to fix this article tomorrow, but if someone else can work on this, I'd appreciate it. 03:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Edit: I've fixed most of it. I think it's an acceptable article now. Max Elstein 15:46, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oboe vs other instruments[edit]

Regarding this sentence: "Songwriter Shane MacGowan and producer Elvis Costello clashed over the final mix of the song, with MacGowan preferring a mix featuring a cornet, and Costello preferring a version with oboe. The cornet version was used, except for Canadian editions of the EP, which used the oboe version. ..."

This is attributed to Carol Clerk's "The Story of the Pogues" and Philip Chevron in an online forum.

I bought the US release of this album when it came out and it's definitely got an oboe in this song. I note that the Wikipedia article on the entire album [1] also refers to the dispute but says MacGowan preferred a flugelhorn, not cornet, and notes that the oboe version of the song is on US (and Canadian) original releases.

I don't have a copy of "The Story of the Pogues" and, as I read it, Chevron doesn't clearly say whether the oboe appears on the US original release or reissues. So I'm not sure about the veracity of sources on this information on this page, but I can hear with my own ears that it's an oboe on the US vinyl original release. I haven't changed it in case someone with access to the sources can clear it up. Pergish1 (talk) 21:16, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
