Merge request[edit]

Suggesting we merge this with the Pink Floyd European Tour 1968 page (to something like Pink Floyd 1968 Tour), on the grounds that the American tour by itself is not notable enough to warrant a separate page, since there are few verifiable references even for the longer European tours page. Nor does this tour "follow" the European tours chronologically, rather, it was in the midst of two other legs of the same world tour. BotleySmith (talk) 15:11, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm OK with the idea to merge A Saucerful of Secrets US Tour with Pink Floyd European Tour 1968 - to something like Pink Floyd World Tour 1968 - but it would be important to differentiate three legs as followed :

"Pink Floyd World Tour 1968 - European leg #1",
"Pink Floyd World Tour 1968 ('A Saucerful of Secrets') - North-American leg &
"Pink Floyd World Tour 1968 ('A Saucerful of Secrets') - European leg #2 "

since the 'A Saucerful of Secrets' album was released only on 29 June 1968.

with the precision of the different set-lists!

Well, the distinction between three separate legs of touring is fairly clear, I have no problem with that. However, the selection of songs is mostly the same over the course of the year (with the exceptions already noted on the European Tour page); considering the dearth of reliable sources, I don't think it's verifiable enough to ennumerate each leg's set-list separately when a single list of songs typically performed over the whole year would be fine.

But why bother adding the Saucerful title? We can't assume that a leg of the tour should be called by the same name as the album, or by any name at all for that matter, simply because the album was released at that time. I think we'd need a verifiable source as to what (if anything) Pink Floyd themselves called the tour, first. Mason's book Inside Out claims that they didn't really "brand" tours with a specific associated album until 1977. It would be more clear to simply say when the album was released.
