Esther[edit]

I see a few references to Esther on this page, which I take to be the name of one of the characters but that's not explained anywhere I can see --Mortice 22:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the Garland character is named "Esther Blodgett" and changes it to "Vicki Lester" when she becomes a star. I'm surprised this article has no plot or cast sections, which would help explain the situation. I don't have enoough time now, but I'll add something when I get a chance. have added a plot summary and cast list. Rossrs 13:55, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Star is born534.jpg[edit]

Image:Star is born534.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Critical Reception[edit]

Can this section please be documented and re-written?

"That the film had been cut from its initial 182 minutes in its initial release to the 154 minutes (without the original's intermission) for general release throughout the States may have cast a pall over the film's popularity come Academy Award time. An impression had been created that the longer version, no longer available in theatres, was the better one. Which version was in contention?"

There's no source for the impression that the editing harmed the film at the Oscars. The question seems too informal and there's no resolution. Does this paragraph need to be here at all? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davmpls (talkcontribs) 00:03, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plot/not plot[edit]

The end of the Plot section contains a few lines about the closing line being echoed in other movies (Die Hard and North by Northwest are specifically mentioned). While this might be worth putting in another section, it's pretty definitely not part of the plot of the movie itself. (Also, the section seems to have been written with a particular point of view in mind, but the main point is that describing tenuous parallels to other movies (especially ones that were produced many years later) doesn't seem to belong in the "Plot" category.
