Lists have been removed[edit]

This is an article, not a list. It looks like the lists were split to List of male action heroes, correctly deleted as subjective, unmaintainable cruft, then magically reappeared a few months later. There's nothing wrong with a few examples, but if the "content" consists of two sentences and a few hundred examples, it's obviously a bit of a problem. This article was kept at AfD because it was thought that it could be improved. I agree, but it hasn't happened yet. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:34, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Action heroList of male action heroes and villains – This is just a list, not an in-depth article on the subject. Moreover, it lists only males, as there is a separate List of female action heroes and villains. The proposed move, which includes inserting "and villains", would make the two lists gender-symmetric. There was a previous agreement not to delete this article, discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Action hero and closed 23 September 2011. Shortly thereafter, there was an agreement to delete an article specific to males, discussed at WP:Articles for deletion/List of male action heroes and closed 18 October 2011, but this article has become only about males. There was an agreement not to delete the article specific to females, discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of female action heroes (2nd nomination) and closed 2 December 2015 (after a previous no consensus discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of female action heroes closed 30 September 2011). If we're not going to delete this article and we're not going to delete the article about females, we should give this article a title that obeys that principle that WP:Male is not the default. The only way I see to do that is to move this list to a male-specific title and create a new article or dab page that refers readers to the two gender-specific lists. We might also need a List of non-binary gendered action heroes and villains. Basically, this RM is a cry for help to figure out what to do. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:08, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment we should just make this article about action heroes and heroines conceptually, and just not list actors who play action heroes. So my recommendation is just get rid of the irrelevant list of actors. It can be a stub if need be.--Ortizesp (talk) 01:42, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article would then be two sentences long. — BarrelProof (talk) 06:04, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • So be it. Unless someone wants to take a stab with actual references to expand.--Ortizesp (talk) 07:35, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - per Ortizesp, this definitely needs to be an article; the list is incidental.  — Amakuru (talk) 23:02, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose because I do not see this as going the right way about it. First of all, "action hero" is a valid encyclopedic term by itself and should be kept. Secondly, the embedded list could easily be spun off into List of male action heroes and villains. On the other hand, since it's completely unsourced, and any one of us could blank it this moment, nulling any list-related discussion. (It's not even a good list -- it's just naming actors who have played action heroes at some point, with no information about these roles or films.) I suggest to just start the male-specific list using pre-existing lists out there and to blank this embedded list and then add more prose so it's a more substantial stub at minimum. Also, list of female action heroes and villains needs some serious sourcing and/or blanking. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 23:15, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
However, please note that List of female action heroes and villains has 88 cited sources. This article has almost none. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:24, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"However" in response to what? WP:CONTN applies. Are you arguing that "action hero" is not an encyclopedic topic? Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 02:40, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"However" in response to the last sentence of the comment, which was about the list of female action heroes and villains and might give people the impression that the other list is in nearly as poor condition as this one. Having 88 sources shows a certain amount of effort at least. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:48, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no, that list is definitely much better. It just suffers the problem a lot of lists do, where passerby editors throw in new listings without sourcing. I can see it happening with survival film, for example, as much as I try to maintain that. Anyway, I started a "History" section. I'm sure it can cover more from the late twentieth century and cover female action heroes. Down to nuke that embedded list and start fresh with a more character-centric approach?
