Actopan

Actopan is not wet year round. In fact, it has a very dry climate. The only rainy month is June. Other than that rain seldom falls unless there is a tropical storm during the summer or norte during the winter months. The major industry is agriculture...with mangos, chiote(a kind of squash)tomatoes, bananas and papaya. All of these crops are irrigated by the Actopan River which begins in the mountains to the west, runs underground for abot 30 miles, falls from a beautiful waterfalls about 15 miles from the city if Actopan..and finally empties into the Gulf of Mexico. There really is no other industry other than Tourism. The river is home to two rafting companies which provide rubber rafting trips down the shallow but rapid river. The river flows in a canyon after leaving the waterfalls, providing a stunning landscape.
