Issue , Administrator Please Fix[edit]

The link in the compilation album section for the album Big Ones is linked to the wrong page. The link should be linked to the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ones, instead it is linked to a Loverboy Album. I am not an administrator, so I am unable to edit the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.89.183.90 (talk) 02:21, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Corrected per your request. Thank you. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 02:39, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Total Worldwide Album Sales for Albums[edit]

Where do the worldwide album sales (estimates) come from? They've been there (and modified several times) for a long time, even before this separate discography page was created, and I've always wondered where these figures are dervied from. Are people just guestimating? Is there any legitimate way of tallying worldwide record sales, including back all the way to 1973? I know the U.S. figures are accurate (albeit outdated in some cases) as they are derived from official certifications by the RIAA. But I'm still wondering about the worldwide albums sales. I know that Columbia Records has reported Aerosmith to have sold a grand total of well over 100 million albums worldwide, but where are the worldwide sales for each album being derived? Any help in trying to get sources for this information or if these are just pure estimates by Wikipedians themselves would be appreciated. Thanks. --Abog 00:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See Metallica or a-ha which are even longer. --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 18:51, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They are not longer. Aerosmith is 54 KB when merged. Metallica is only 44 KB and a-Ha is only 39 KB. According to Wikipedia's policies on article length, when an article reaches 40K, it may eventually need to be divided (likelihood goes up with size). Metallica is only slightly over that. Aerosmith would be way over the 40 KB threshold though. When an article is 60K, it says it should probably be divided. Aerosmith would be very close to that 60K threshold, and would probably reach it, once more pertinent information is added to the article. And whoever says you can't separate a discography into a couple articles in order to get Featured List status is out of their gord. Try combining Madonna's albums and singles into one article and see the shit storm that will happen with that. Abog (talk) 23:59, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to us making the discography a FL, but anyway Abog is right with what he said. I'm sure even without the singles section a discography can become a FL. If not, then we should put the singles back into the article. Well, we'll find out until the review of the article is done. As a member of the WikiProject Aerosmith, it shouldn't be a problem for ya to discuss major changes on the project talk page. So let work it out to make the article a FL. Janadore (talk) 06:16, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with Janadore and Abog for split format for this article. Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 16:48, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked The Ramblin Man about this. He's the director of Featured List or something like that. --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 08:57, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was also wondering if we really needed to list the chart positions of so many different countries for the discography as well? Charts for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and so many others are listed and most of the band's albums and singles didn't chart in those countries, with the exception of a few. Seems like that takes up an awful lot of space for only a few chart positions that aren't really all that notable.Odin's Beard (talk) 13:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article is no longer protected. Please no more edit warring. Happy editing. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 02:11, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see discussion above but it is compendious. Be Black Hole Sun, you are not helping your cause with your edits. You need to discuss this first, reach an understanding second, and edit third. I will re-protect this article, and blocks will be forth coming for disruptive editing, if this edit war continues. I will say that a consensus does appear to be developing, and it should be followed in the spirit of wiki policies. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 20:18, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK read this section. I don't agree with separating the discographies. Videography yes, as the entire section here exists on the discography page, get rid of it here and leave the link. Other appearances? This to me suggested guesting on other tracks, but the one album listed is an inclusion on a various artists compilation, that list could be endless if the case, so either way i suggest removing. I also like the idea of getting rid of all those countries with no data, whats the point?! To solve this, maybe split the discography slightly, like singles have been done by decade, maybe split studios by label Columbia/Geffen/Columbia?Yellowxander (talk) 11:38, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Box of Fire[edit]

Is Box of Fire really a compilation? All Box of Fire is was a reissue of Aerosmith's Columbia albums (album for album) plus a bonus disc of unreleased versions of songs all on one package —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.62.252.58 (talk) 15:35, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is a compilation. It has a title, liner notes, and is packaged as a box set, and yes, the unreleased versions of songs and whatnot. Most sources list it as a compilation, such as allmusic. Plus, it also has gold certification from the RIAA. Abog (talk) 21:44, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand the point in a Limited Edition Compilations section, doesn't really matter if it's limited or not, it's still part of the discography, I don't believe it should be separated, for the fact that it is "limited edition", that's a note for the album on it's own page. However, I do see regulary, a separate section for boxsets...Yellowxander (talk) 11:25, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerosmith_singles_discography should be merged into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerosmith_discography.

I have not seen any where else at all with two separate discographies, let alone the fact that the Singles Discography page is a replica of the Singles Discography section on the Aerosmith Discography page.Yellowxander (talk) 11:06, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have now seen a handful of instances where this may be done, but only when a very extensive catalogue exists. I still don't think this is necessary.

Videography[edit]

As there is a separate page there is no need for any of the info to be on the Discography page, let alone duplicated. I will be removing the chart on the Discography page and leaving just the link.Yellowxander (talk) 10:18, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aerosmith discographyAerosmith albums discography – Because there is a singles discography. There is no specific naming convention on this (afaik) but let me provide two examples which use the same formatting: Celine Dion discography and Madonna discography. • Oppose, WP:TWODABS. Also, disambiguation pages are for unrelated concepts, per WP:DABCONCEPT. bd2412 T 20:51, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support WP:PRECISE, there is not enough precision to tell what discography this is, since there are two, and this is not a full discography, nor the master discography. "Aerosmith discography" can redirect to Aerosmith#Discography, where yet a third list exists, and which points to both the singles and albums discographies. -- 76.65.128.112 (talk) 22:23, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Of the 4,511 pages under , 3,985 are titled "Foo discography", while only 28 are titled "Foo albums discography". The handful of deviants should be corralled, not increased. bd2412 T 23:36, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • That's perhaps because those "Foo discographies" are not as extensive as other artists' discographies. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 02:32, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
        • Do you have evidence of this? bd2412 T 02:43, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • Most discographies contain all the discography information; or are the sole discography article. Many of those that aren't are a "master list" where the subsidiary disscographies are sublists. This article is neither; therefore we should not be encouraging inaccuracy and misleading titles in an attempt to make some sort of global round peg in square hole phenomenon. -- 76.65.128.112 (talk) 06:22, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • @bd: Compare Celine Dion albums discography and Celine Dion singles discography with Avril Lavigne discography. Clearly, Celine Dion's discography is significantly more extensive than Avril Lavigne's. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 12:47, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
