Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Searle was a significant figure in the life of the writer Somerset Maugham, and as such is of interest to literary scholars. His life with Maugham is well-documented in the various biographies of Maugham (in particular, the most recent one by Selina Hastings). There were already various incoming links to the article on Searle from pages related to Maugham, as it was assumed that he was sufficiently noteworthy to have an entry.
