Name[edit]

I've chosen to list this under "Aline Elizabeth Black" rather than her full married name as most texts mention her under her maiden name. For example, the Library of Virginia has her listed without the surname "Hicks", as does this academic text. I think that only one or two of the sources on the page actually use her married name to refer to her.

The reason for this is that Black is best known for her role in the legal case, which was done under her maiden name. She may or may not have been married at this point in time, but I have no way of knowing this since we don't have a wedding certificate that lists her marriage date. In any case, this should remain under her maiden name per WP:COMMONNAME. I've made a note of her married name on the article and thought that it'd be a good idea to give an explanation here.
