Just a note on the second paragraph - unless you have limited slip or locking diffs on at least one axle as well as the centre diff you will still have just two wheels taking a 50:50 split of the torque in slippery conditions, not all 4 wheels taking it more or less equally. With a locking/TBD on the rear you will have at least 3wd at all times.
