First section not neutral?[edit]

The introducing paragraph looks to me as it's taken out of a positive review rather than facts, especially the part about their second album showcasing "a kinetic sound drifting seamlessly between melody and relentless aggression". Should the article be praising the band or presenting plain facts about it?

what is this?[edit]

Get metalcore fuckin off there, oh wait ill do it.

they're friggen melodic death metal not metalcore

They're Metalcore. XdiabolicalX 17:33, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Melodic Death seems unnecessary[edit]

They do have melodic death influences somewhat beyond normal metalcore, but it doesn't seem necessary to have that listed as a genre.

  • Their first album is Melodic Death, aparently, unfortunatly I havent managed to check it out yet but it fits because Shadows Fall's first album was MD too. So I'll add it back in for now. XdiabolicalX 02:30, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Christian Metal?[edit]

Why is this band in the Christian metal category? As far as I can tell, they aren't a Christian band, so does anyone have a reason to keep them in this category? -Nwhitehair (talk) 07:32, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I also noticed that this band is categorized as Christian metal, but there is no mention of this in the main band article or the articles of the albums and bandmembers, but I'm not at all familiar with the band, so I left it. Maybe someone who is actually knowledgeable about this band and its music can add a sentence or two rationalizing their categorization as Christian metal, or else the category should be removed. (Sugar Bear (talk) 00:38, 26 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. Thats the funniest thing I've heard all week. All That Remains? Christian? Hardly. Dokuhebi was here! :D (talk) 18:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hardly? What do you mean by that? If you know anything about Judeo-Christian symbolism, you'd know it is frequent within the band's lyrics. Especially in "Not Alone." Not it's not about a woman. Not only that, but the vocalist is a Christian, so "Hardly" isn't the word for it. Whether or not they are a Christian band is a different story, but saying it isn't evident in their lyrics is just a ridiculous assumption. "No more are the days that I will, Fear for I have found a strength that, None can match and I'll push forward." That pretty much sums up the "Christian Redemption" thing. IronCrow (talk) 07:47, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No that's your interpretation of their lyrics. Your assumption of Phil's lyrics containing Christian references are unsubstantiated claims. I could apply your same reasoning to the song 'Indictment', "Don't let me follow in the foot steps. I won't embrace these wrong ideals" "My eyes have seen the horrors that you Commit in the name of your god. Your god is violence your god is unholy". I interpret these to be very anti-religion like my own beliefs. Your "Christian Redemption" interpretation is simply your own view and is not supported by any facts about the writings of the song in question. I suggest you take your Holy Crusade to the As I Lay Dying wiki instead? Wildzero777 (talk) 16:57, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to have to go with the guy above. Just because a person has found a "Strength that none can match," it doesn't necessarily mean Christianity. Personally, I have always interpreted that as a song about having support amogst friends or a significant other. As far as this calling goes, to me that is more of a "Yay, we're busting our asses and making it," song. As far as that goes, check out Indictment, far from Christian lyrics there. The only valid argument towards the idea that they are a Christian band, is the fact that they tour with As I Lay Dying. Not my favourite band, but let's face it, As I Lay Dying is bigger than them in the metalcore scene. It's unfortunate, but I have always looked at the fact that they tour together being All That Remains trying to score some fans. On top of that, how can you call a band a Christian band unless they actually speak about God in there songs? Lysdestic (talk) 16:03, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
0_0 k whos the dumbass that thinks theyre a christian band....... they are most certainly not a christian band........... theyre lyrics do not show it at all IM a christian and i love this band but them christian? hell no XP RaikiriChidori
...they aren't a Christian band, Phil said in an interview that he likes to leave his lyrics up to interpretation, and looking at it from a Christian perspective it may seem like they are even though they aren't. cheese (talk) 16:56, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My friend tried to convince me they were Christian and I told him to get over himself. I heard Phil is a Christian and some of their lyrics could be used as evidence for it. But their new album features a song called "We believe in Nothing". I've heard it and if it has another meaning than what I think then someone please tell me. I think it would be cool if they were Christian but I seriously doubt that they are.Wikitywikitywak (talk) 00:40, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Wikitywikitywak[reply]

about that song, it was just a nevermore cover and on All That Remains' purevolume they said that they just wanted to cover a song that they thought was good but never caught enough media attention cheese (talk) 17:53, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that all the members are christians doesn't mean that the music is christian. They're American, and correct me if I'm wrong, but America is pretty much the most outspoken christian nation in the world. Most people there are christian, but that doesn't mean that everything they do has to be labelled as an act of christianity. 81.129.129.251 (talk) 11:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

melodic death metal[edit]

No need to. Just listen to the first two albums. Infact it should be readded. TheWeakWilled (talk) 22:59, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

is/are[edit]

opening line should be, "they are a band." atr is plural, thus they. "They is a band." No, absolutey not. Not any day of the week. No chance in hell.

142.162.196.11 (talk) 00:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are hundreds of pages all over wiki with that exact grammatical mistake. Drives me nuts. lol —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.129.251 (talk) 20:27, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Progressive Death Metal[edit]

Their first album had elements of progressive metal so i think that they should have that listed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.127.224.221 (talk) 21:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Er, no, it didn't. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.3.12.178 (talk) 00:22, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deathcore[edit]

Whoever keeps putting deathcore up under their genres is a complete moron, they arnt deathcore they are metalcore infuenced by melodic death metal, there is no simularity between deathcore and all that remains. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.155.106.243 (talk) 16:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

well I'd like to disagree and say that they are some BIG similarities between metalcore and deathcore, but All That Remains aren't deathcore, they're very distinct seperate styles.

Members (Current)[edit]

who the hell is Zachary Petri? He is not their guitar-player. I deleted his name off the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.38.25.31 (talk) 06:21, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Metalcore[edit]

Okay, stop changing "metalcore" to "melodic metalcore", sure they may be influenced by melodic death metal, but that is NOT what melodic metalcore is even close to. And plus As I Lay Dying's biggest influence in their music career is In Flames which is a melodic death metal band, and As I Lay Dying's genre is metalcore, and yet you don't see anyone going to their genre and changing it to "melodic metalcore". And furthermore, you don't even have a cite reference for this. -~- GunMetal Angel 19:14, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You don't seem to understand what I'm telling you. Did you read the metalcore article? metalcore influenced by melodic death metal is melodic metalcore. read Metalcore#Melodic metalcore(1997-Present) Converge, Hatebreed, Integrity, Overcast, Coalesce, Rorschach, Morning Again are metalcore. As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Bullet for My Valetine, Shadows Fall and all those lame bands are melodic metalcore, and that's the correct term. However I'm going to left "metalcore" on the infobox per Template:Infobox Musical artist#Genre "Aim for generality" --Kmaster (talk) 04:17, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well I guess that's fair, also, way to call a lot of my favorite bands "lame" X_X . GunMetal Angel 15:47, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah...it's kinda lame that he called my favourite bands lame. Zellthemedic (talk) 21:35, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, does anyone relise that metalcore and melodic metalcore direct to the same page? It doesn't bloody matter, list as Metalcore, it is more general, heads the page BOTH labels direct to AND adiquitly covers the elements displayed by melodic metalcore bands like all that remains. What does it matter who the band is influenced by?? BFMV and Trivium are both heavily, and i mean HEAVILY, influenced by Thrash Metal bands as well. Should we start calling them Melodic Thrash Metalcore then? No because its rediculus. Listing as Melodic Metalcore is pointless. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.176.166.126 (talk) 09:26, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed with above. Melodic metalcore is not a genre, and even if it is, shouldnt be here for All that Remains ThickerThanWater19 (talk) 23:47, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Melodic metalcore is a STYLE of metalcore, but not a seperate genre. So it's better to list their genre as metalcore, and then state in the main article that they play a melodic style, which has been done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.129.251 (talk) 20:24, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Citations Tag Removal?[edit]

i think that the citations of this article are good enough to remove the tag, however i also think that the amount of albums sold in the u.s. should be removed because there is no citation, and i have not found anything when searching the web that says that they have sold any certain amount cheese (talk) 16:59, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not A Metalcore band[edit]

Quote from band:

"ATR: Yeah, we’re not Christian and we’re not metalcore, so tell the people on the message board to stop calling us that."

"What they say they are or aren't does not matter." Smartest thing I've ever heard. (Sarcasm) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.37.108.66 (talk) 20:48, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My guitar playing style is sludge metal, but I'm going to go ahead and call it brutal death metal. Since I'm the musician and I'm making the music, what I say goes, right? Just like Motorhead is rock and roll instead of heavy/speed metal and Slipknot are totally "metal metal, like Slayer." 157.89.185.77 (talk) 03:01, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They are one of the definitive metalcore bands. The only reason they claim they aren't metalcore is because it's considered "uncool" on the elitist metal circuit and they're trying to appear "so totally extreme dude". Same goes for their claims of not being christian. They ARE metalcore, they play breakdowns and incorporate the generic hardcore scream/clean vocal formula. I will quote you about 1000 reputable sources that will back that up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.129.251 (talk) 15:01, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fozzy?[edit]

Didn't they work with Fozzy at one point? MaraquanWocky (talk) 01:15, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, but Fozzy redirects in the article because Fozzy has an album entitled "All That Remains." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.50.56.150 (talk) 12:15, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Members section[edit]

There seems to be some problems with the members section of this page. I'm a casual ATR fan, not a diehard, so I'm not too keen on the band's history, but I find it hard to believe that they had 3 guitar players for the entire year of 2003 and no bass player between 2004 and 2006. Can anyone fix this so that it is accurate? The line chart and the text sections are both messed up. -user:hsxeric 8 February, 2012. 18:57
