January 2008[edit]

Mention of "form major" but no mention of the three named varieties? Paalexan (talk) 05:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

May 2009[edit]

The article could be clearer... The article states that "This plant does not have bulblets." Bulblets can either mean a variety of underground "cloned" bulbs like those present with Potato Onion, Allium cepa, var. aggregatum; it also could mean bulbils like those present on Tree Onion, being Allium cepa var. proliferum. Either way clarification appears to be necessary. --Arlock01 (talk) 11:32, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

White Flowers Photo[edit]

@UpdateNerd, I have questions about the photo labeled "white flowers" you added to the article in August. Even though the file says "Allium cernuum", it does not look like any that I've seen. I suspect the photographer may have misidentified it. Do you have a source that would offer a more definitive identification? MtBotany (talk) 23:43, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MtBotany: I'm pretty sure I was just going off the file name on Commons. Although the article does say the flowers can be white. UpdateNerd (talk) 03:01, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@UpdateNerd It is not the color that bothers me. Rather it is the structure, that it does not reflex / recurve downward like the ones I have seen identified as cernuum. The sort of nectar guide stripe also bothers me slightly, but not as much as the overall shape. I think I should ask for opinions in the project forum to see if I’m mistaken. @MtBotany: You're probably right that it could be another species. Maybe it just looks different in youth or w/ regional mutations, but that's speculation on my part. Thanks for switching to a better image. More comments on the possibly misidentified photo would be welcome, especially since there are similar species that can be deadly. UpdateNerd (talk) 01:28, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@UpdateNerd I'm 99.9% sure it is an Allium of some kind. Just not sure which. I would guess Allium textile, but that's the other species I'm most familiar with and it could just be the pattern recognition bits of my brain making assumptions based on that. MtBotany (talk) 16:15, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@MtBotany: Agreed, it looks quite a bit more like that species. @C T Johansson: since you uploaded the photo, would you object to the file(s) being renamed to reflect the reidentification as Allium textile? UpdateNerd (talk) 02:16, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
